Rybar update. Ukrainian counterattacks in eastern zaporizhia. Map:

In the East Zaporizhzhia direction, fierce clashes continue at the junction of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The main attention of the parties is focused on the northern flank, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine are attacking in the vicinity of Ternovaty and Orestopol. The enemy regularly tries to throw infantry groups between the positions of the Russian Armed Forces. In most cases, the enemy's manpower is destroyed immediately at the landing site.
As we have repeatedly written earlier, Ukrainian formations are trying to break through to the border of Stepovoye - Berezovoye - Ternovoye. Today, footage of recent attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was published on the Internet. At the beginning of the year, the enemy carried out raid operations, and only in February decided to use equipment. At least one of the M113 APCs managed to break through to the approaches to Berezovoye, where it was destroyed by drones. Apparently, the car was driving from the north to bypass Orestopol. In Orestopol itself, most likely, the presence of the Russian Armed Forces, if any, is very limited.
On the way to Berezovo, where the landing force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reached, Sosnovka is also located. It is also now in the "gray zone". The enemy had previously repeatedly passed through settlements, without establishing control over them and taking advantage of surprise.
In the vicinity of Gulyaypol, meanwhile, the initiative remains with "Vostok", Russian stormtroopers occupy new frontiers. Stormtroopers are advancing at the border of Tsvetkovoye - Staroukrainka. According to preliminary data, good news should be expected from the site in the near future.
The situation on the site as a whole remains very complex and dynamic. Guided by political motives, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is ready to exchange people for several forest strips and small villages. The "stabilization of the front" declared by Syrsky to the east of Zaporozhye costs the enemy very much. The Armed Forces of Ukraine face the same problems as the Russian Armed Forces, in the form of a mass of drones and difficult terrain. As a result, such frontal attacks only lead to personnel spending with modest results.

The fact that there was a narrative that the US wanted Kyiv to hold elections. They seem to want to do it for their own reasons (if that tweet is accurate)

OK. Just wondered.
I had seen the election deal being part of the negotiations before.

Rubio mentioned how the negotiations are going in that a lot has been agreed on except for a few very sticking points. This was in his discussion at the Munich Security Conference. Even generals have entered the negotiations.
Off Topic, AOC was clearly clueless in the discussion on populism. The reps from Argentina, Czech Republic and Germany clearly out classed her in knowledge. She's stuck on eat the rich philosophy. WTF, was someone of her supposed level of academic achievement doing tending bar. Every Wall Street firm could have check several minority boxes by hiring her at top dollar

ISW update of Ukrainian counterattacks in eastern Zapo/Dniepropetrovsk

Posted on 2/14/26 at 6:56 pm to T1gerNate
I continue to be fascinated by what is transpiring in what you could call the Dobropillia direction. Again, the northeastern portion of this area (the upper right of the Rybar map below) is located to the west of the fortress belt. The more Russia is able to advance in this direction the more pressure is put on the less fortified western flank of the fortress belt. I believe this will be the critical theater in the coming months and potentially of the entire war.
Most recent pertinent ISW updates. Look at the area labeled “shakhove” in the first map and “Sofiivka” in the bottom map

Sochi is the location of Putin's palace. I doubt that's the target but the stacked air defense units protecting it could be.

This is what a Third World shithole does when they have no access to global commsats or any other 20th Century signal technology.

Wow... I mean they used to have a space program. Now it's just hot air balloons.

As to the Russian balloon comms... Under the chapter, 'Learn Something New Every Day', from the comment section - Always read the comments.
Well, there are different financial demands for different circumstances. Google didn't end this program under circumstances of the catastrophic destruction of the entire corporation. So we may be entertained with Russki-loon for a bit longer.
On a more serious note, we may also see the capacity of the Chinese supercomputers. For a price of course. I'm sure they have already stolen the necessary algorithms...
Google's Project Loon
quote:
Balloons of [Google's] Project Loon float in the stratosphere at twenty kilometers altitude. In this layer is low turbulence and the wind speeds, between 8 and 32 km/h, are relatively low compared to other layers in the atmosphere.
The balloons move by switching between the wind currents in the stratosphere. They do this by rising or falling. By means of supercomputers with special software algorithms [Oh dear, I think we have spotted the problem], the balloons are controlled from the ground to determine at what height they should float. The wind data is provided by the NOAA.
To communicate with the balloons there are antennas on the ground that can connect to the balloons. Through this network, speeds similar to 3G can be achieved.
Termination
On January 22, 2021, Alastair Westgarth, CEO of Loon, announced that the program would be coming to an end. Producing the balloons would no longer be financially feasible.

The revenue of the aircraft plant decreased by 3.8 times and amounted to 3.8 billion rubles. The cost of this decreased by 2.5 times - to 3.56 billion rubles. Gross profit fell almost 24 times, to 240 million rubles, and the result of the main activity was changed from profit to a loss: minus 1.24 billion rubles against plus 3 billion a year earlier.
At the same time, the accounts payable of the enterprise increased - from 24 billion to 27 billion rubles. Receivables, on the contrary, have almost halved - from 21 billion to 10 billion rubles.
Revenues decreased but payables increased? How does this happen? Oh...here's an example of Russian economics -
quote:
As previously reported by “Blockaktop Rostov”, through the court recovered from Tank Beriev damage to the soil of more than 66 million rubles.
The profits were there, they were just disappeared.

the rest of us should be grateful to Ukraine
Ukrainians have shown great bravery. Their performance in this war has been admirable.
That said, I am exactly 0% grateful for a country that is merely defending itself while we finance and arm their defense. That's just silly grandstanding. They aren't doing this because they want to defend the world from Russia and it's dumb to pretend they are.

Even if Ukraine knew they have no hope in a protracted war, what is the incentive for the rich to stop if they are partying while others bleed (and some are likely making money off the war). Same logic applies to Russia. The decision makers aren't feeling the effects of the war in either country.

Interesting that a number of Russian drones relied on Starlink. Loss of Starlink and now Telegram is impacting Russia at the front. Battle management systems are key in modern warfare. No one is standing on a hilltop with binoculars to see what a battle needs in this day and time.
Loss of data link sure as heck impacts gas pumps, and stores in the US. Imagine what it does on the battlefield.
