Large donors to Jeff Landry's campaign paid millions to settle Medicaid fraud allegations

The attorney general’s commitment to stamping out Medicaid swindlers has not prevented him and his affiliated political action committees (PACs) from accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in political donations from health care companies and their executives accused of committing health care fraud. At least two of contributors are also top donors to Republican Liz Murrill, Landry’s current deputy who is running to replace him as attorney general.
quote:
In November 2021, Landry signed a settlement agreement on behalf of the state totaling $64.2 million with Louisiana’s largest Medicaid insurance provider, Centene Corp, according to KFF Health News. It was one of several settlements the Missouri company struck with states over accusations it charged Medicaid programs too much for prescription drugs.
quote:
But just two years earlier, in September 2019, Centene made a $25,000 donation to a Landry PAC, Louisiana Citizens for Job Creators, while he was running for reelection as attorney general.
quote:
Last month, Centene also gave a $100,000 contribution to the Republican Party of Louisiana, which is financially supporting Landry and Murrill’s campaigns.
quote:
In spite of the settlement’s size, no one in the state government, including Landry and Edwards, promoted the multimillion-dollar settlement with Centene when it was finalized. KFF Health News obtained a copy of it through a public records request.
quote:
During his first term in office, Landry often tried to tie health care fraud directly to the governor’s decision to expand Medicaid. He said the state needed to invest more resources in investigating Medicaid fraud because Edwards had added hundreds of thousands of people to the program.
quote:
In his second term in office, which started in 2020, he hasn’t put out a single press release about arrests or convictions from his Medicaid fraud team’s work.
Landry has also recently told people privately and publicly that he won’t repeal Edwards’ Medicaid expansion order.

You see, we are not in a cult like you. I wouldnt vote for him. Im actually not interested in voting for a lawyer.
Plus Rispone would have won if this mattered.

This isn't a partisan issue, more of an office holder greasy handshake issue

There’s a lot more in the article too. Need a damn chart to compare all the money flowing to Landry et al., from accused companies.

He's the type of politician everyone on here claims to hate. He's part of the system. He's in politics for a career.
He's in it with big donors. Even though he sues Fauci and the feds and makes headlines, he's doing it all for his political amibitons. You really think he would have done all of that fighting if he wasn't trying to move to a higher political office?
Why in the hell can't we have someone just run for an office to do the job, not to make a career out of it?

Landry is playing the game. You suck up to Trump, run around a say conservative talking points. Then you do nothing win you get to office and set yourself up to run for the senate. He has a track record of being a slime ball but he stood up to Biden and that's all that matters to most GOP voters anywhere.

I do not like Landry and I am very disappointed that no other republican has really campaigned effectively.

We got invited to a Landry event in our small town .. $1000 min ticket per couple. Some of the names involved are personal friends and I had no idea they were the type to host these things.
Upper donor level is like $5000 per couple. No thanks. I’ll vote but we’re not giving anyone our money.

There’s a shite ton, it was too much to even continue quoting
Kinda hard when the GOP didn’t even give the others a chance, endorses Landry from the get go.

One of the replies on Twitter brought up a good point. Louisiana receives like 60% of Medicaid funding from federal dollars. So technically these companies stole from the federal government. That should be an even bigger issue.

This. Landry bought out the LA GOP Chairman Louis Gurvich out the gate. Once that happened, he got exclusive access to all the state party resources, pro bono.
Hey, smart on his part. He’s a hell of a politician and campaigner.
It’s Gurvich Republican voters who prefer the other candidates should be pissed at. He ensured other GOP candidates, some with good platforms and records of actually working on state-specific issues and reforms, are shut out.

Jeff Landry is a Rino ball less loser who doesn't believe in himself. Why should I vote for a coward who didn’t have the balls to take on JBE.
Conservatives should not be voting for this coward.

He isn’t my first choice but I’ll vote for him over a shitty democrat all day and twice on Sunday.
The same people complaining about Landry are the same people who voted for JBE or stayed home so JBE could win both terms
