Listening to the arguments against the bridge made my head hurt. Grab your Kleenex.

I’m sure that he will fight with the same tenacity about the Baton Rouge bridge now, since it’s in his district.

I won’t hold my breath

Only in Louisiana will you hear people complaining about not having nice things and then complain about having to pay for nice things.

will be interesting how many people will just use the bypass instead. It is only a couple minutes shorter.

I'd imagine a lot of trucks will change since I believe most tolls are paid by the driver himself. And a $8 charge is steep

Lake Charles Toll Bridge P3 approved

Okay so I-10 will be designated to the current I-220 route, then the new toll bridge will be I-220?

I don't think this is the end of the world since there is an alternative route without a toll.

Yeah - I would bet that the bypass will become I-10 officially.

While on the subject; I-12 from BR to Slidell should be renamed I 10 and I 10 from Slidell to BR should be renamed I 12.

Did they change the cost of the tolls from the previous proposal?

Nvm- they lowered the toll cost but the money will be made up "later." Probably from the current surplus.

quote:

The renegotiated agreement would expand a 25-cent toll with a vehicle size limit for locals to all noncommercial vehicles in a 5-parish area. It would reduce the toll for large trucks from $12.50 with a transponder to $8.25. Large trucks without transponders would pay $12.36 instead of $18.73.

"The previous toll schedule, it really did place an outsized burden on those commercial trucks … and so this has brought it in line with the rates that are being charged to passenger automobiles and medium trucks," Donahue said.

The rate reduction is "funded through additional public fund contributions to be finalized at financial close," according to Donahue's presentation.

Now do the new Plaquemine/BR bridge. Because that is appropriate for tolls and is also desperately needed.

Cully Frisard, CEO of Frisard's Trucking in Gramercy, told the committee the new rates, while lower, will cost his company at least $100,000 a year and up to $16 million throughout the 50-year tolling period.

"That cost will be passed on to my customer, which then will be passed to your constituents because I deliver the shoes you wear, the food you eat, the products you buy at the store," he said, questioning why lawmakers aren't considering refurbishing the bridge, with DOTD officials have said would cost between $200 million and $300 million for another couple decades

You can't put lipstick on this pig.

If they need to pass along the toll cost to customers, so be it. $12 allocated across everything the truck is carrying will be ok.

For a 7000 lb gas tanker, you are looking at an additional cost of... 2/10ths of a penny per gal.

LOL!

We will see shortly. Executive Budget presentation is soon.

I don't what the gap is, but they could probably through another $100 mill from the declared surplus at it. If it's more than that, it will be a problem.

Now do the costs of all the goods sitting in traffic because the existing bridge only has 4 lanes compared to 6 on the proposed new one. Also figure the cost of the extra maintenance needed to keep the 72 year old bridge from falling down because it is carrying 3 times the traffic load it was designed for.

That dude sounds like the farmers I know who use farm diesel in their f250s and then bitch about the state not having enough money to fix a rural road in middle of the sticks Louisiana.
