Significantly more serious than "Dude was hit in the leg". One surgery is bad enough........and he was shot with a AK-47 bullet in his Hip which shattered his bone and ripped apart several arteries.

Update on Scalise condition now that press is starting to report it--he is currently undergoing a second surgery right now. Steve has not regained consciousness since he collapsed on the field.

Hmmm... at Lunch, MSNBC had a reporter with a camera at the entrance to the hospital "waiting on Steve Scalise to exit the hospital either in a wheelchair or possibly under his own power". Apparently, the reporter better get a tent and a sleeping bag.

yeah i read a story saying how he was grateful for the capital police and some other stuff.... not sure if its true or not

He is now out of the 2nd surgery in critical condition but stable and being evaluated for a possible & likely 3rd surgery now. He is still unconscious as you would expect.

There is someone on here, or a couple of someones (sorry, forget exactly who, it's been a lot of info quickly), who is close friends with him and has been getting reports directly from people close to him in DC or even his wife.
So let's not assume that people don't know what they're talking about!
Ok, went back through posts, it's Rakim and ihometiger (sorry, don't know first names) who are close and get updates from the inner circle. So let's just wait and see what they tell us.

Its the classic movie bullet syndrome. We see people get shot through the shoulder and bounce back like nothing happened in movies and TV shows.
In real life a shoulder, or hip, is a horrible place to be shot. A major artery runs through both places and even if the bullet or hydrostatic shock does not rupture the blood vessel bone chips are extremely likely too.
When you add in Scalise is not some 24 year old in peak physical condition then this, like you said, is most certainly not a booboo.

FBI holding update live. Confirming reports I saw on local stations that perp had been living in Alexandria, VA area since about March of this year. It's an active investigation and the FBI has an information-wanted poster out asking everyone who has pertinent info on the bastard to come out and speak to them. They are looking at all his electronics and continuing to process the scene.
They're confirming he had a rifle and a handgun. Good job PT board in figuring that out early!
