Democrats seeking to preserve abortion rights following last week's Supreme Court overturn of Roe v. Wade may face an even more uphill battle as Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema has reportedly nixed the idea of reforming the filibuster.

quote:

CNN's Ana Cabrera tweeted on Thursday that Sinema's office said the senator "is still opposed to gutting the filibuster on any topic including on reproductive rights."

quote:

Sinema spokesperson Pablo Sierra-Carmona referred Newsweek to an op-ed the senator wrote for The Washington Post in June 2021 titled, "We have more to lose than gain by ending the filibuster."

Shes right. Dont change the rules when you're about to lose control of the rules.

I have never been so glad to be wrong about any politician. The woman is worlds better than McSally, and she's worlds better than Flake.

A spokesperson for Joe Manchin has confirmed that he is firm in his opposition to a weakening of the filibuster. With both Manchin and Sinema, it looks like the filibuster is safe for the moment.

Harry Reid nukes filibuster and the direct result is whailing and crying over the Supreme Court.

Now they wanna do it again?? It’s like they think they will never lose power.

Indeed. I think she realizes that remaining moderate in a red state (despite what people claim @ 2020) is a good way to continue to get re-elected

You’d think Schumer would have learned a lesson on nuclear options from Dirty Harry Reid.

She is smart enough to realize that nixing the filibuster the Senate simply becomes an extension of the House and he Senate would become pretty weak in the legislative process.

Sinema seems to be a bit of an odd duck, but a very CONSISTENT odd duck.

I can live with that.
