Kemp gathered donors this week for a three-day retreat on Sea Island, Georgia, to plan for the 2024 campaign with a focus on the specific role of Georgia, a vital state for Republicans if they have any hope of winning the White House. According to a source familiar with the retreat, the event raised $1.2 million for Kemp’s committees.

The retreat comes as former President Donald Trump leads in the polls among 2024 GOP presidential candidates, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in second — but trailing — as he prepares to announce his campaign.

Kemp’s activities around 2024 raise his national profile and position him to be part of the mix for a gubernatorial alternative for president should DeSantis stumble. At the least, it positions him for a possible Senate run in 2026, since he will be barred from running for governor again because of state term limits.

Kemp’s private retreat featured a long list of Republican operatives and leaders who gave presentations on a wide range of topics connected to the next election. Speakers included former House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio; Karl Rove, former senior adviser to President George W. Bush; and former Sen. Kelly Loeffler of Georgia.

During his remarks to the group, Kemp outlined what he believes the eventual GOP nominee must focus on for the party to be successful in 2024.

“First, we have to tell voters what we’re for. Second, focus on the future. And third, we have to be able to win a general election. Because we can’t score points if we don’t have the ball,” Kemp said, according to the source familiar with the retreat.

This is the equivalent of Benedict Arnold pushing himself as a candidate should Adams or Washington drop the ball in 1789.

Establishment doesn’t want DeSantis anymore after realizing he can’t be controlled

It is the equivalent of Vince McMahon over-producing someone in WWE.

He takes someone who is very over, decides they are going to be the face of his company, strips out everything that makes fans like them, then wonders why they get booed out of the fricking building or just plain ignored.

Kemp making deals with the ccp before the 2020 election. There's no doubt he would win Georgia he made sure of that. Very doubtful he would stand a chance anywhere else so he can push that junk all he wants.

Outside of political discussions nobody knows him. Ppl know DeSantis but even DeSantis doesn’t have the populism to pass trump. That’s why trump has always been the safe vote. And very stupid of DeSantis to ruin is credibility when he had 28 on lock. Now he may never be president which sucks.

I wouldn’t say ruined him but it gave the MAGA crowd an attack avenue whether warranted or not. It’s clear the the establishment has cooled on DeSantis after realizing he’s actually principled.

So Trump did him a favor by pushing him on issues or is it an act?

DeSantis might very well be a good politician but he seems to lack any enthusiasm and can not take control of the room. These are obviously not a factor in creating policy once elected but are a huge factor trying to get elected. Trump has always been a popular guy that demands attention. Regardless of what most DeSantis supporters say on the PB,Trump carried DeSantis to the finish line. He should have waited 4 years. I don't see any obvious path for him. To be honest don't really care. His announcement will not change much. He's shown he's running for over a year. His camp is not as confident as everyone projects or he would have already announced like he planned at the beginning of May. They know and the majority of Americans know Trump has the most support. Democrats absolutely know.

Is what an act? I don’t think Trump has changed anything about the way DeSantis has operated.

From what I can tell it seemed the GOPe was ready to back DeSantis all the way as a way to rid themselves from Trump but have realized that he isn’t a GOPe type candidate. DeSantis legitimately wants to destroy the uniparty.

This post needs to be re-read, over and over!

Desantis was a huge, up and comer. On the way to sitting in the Oval Office, but he aligned his self with the establishment, and quasi-challenge the guy with a great record and the most votes in Republican history. Desantis almost lost to a guy who got caught, naked, doing crack with a male prostitute in a seedy motel. Trump beat the liberal version of Mary.

If you take a shot at the king, you'd better not miss. Trump was weakened by all the attacks, but not killed.

Then explain why he's aligning his self with the very people who are uniparty.
