I wouldn't bet on that...there are many ignorant people out there, who open up their hearts, as well as their wallets, to grifts like this.
It's a shame to say it, but racism is a hungry beast that must be fed. The folks who believe that Karmelo Anthony is righteous in what he did and continue to donate to his cause are only seeing color...they see a black kid and they feel he could be their kid, so they donate. They believe in him because they're racist.
Here's what a black man, a man with common sense and apparently no shred of racism, has to say: "Anyone that gave to that initial fund had to be an idiot or something way worse. When I first saw the family and the racist “representative” I knew what was about to happen and I’m black. It’s a disgrace all the way around what those racist scammers have been able to get away with".

The chances of Karmelo getting a new trial are slim. Add to that being given a lighter sentence it’s a very small chance. The money is partially for his appeals, but definitely for the family as well. They are looking to get paid again.

Anthony killed Austin Metcalf. Sure seems like he was fairly convicted of murder. His appeal has not been heard.
