Both sides announced their intention to appeal before the case was even heard IIRC.

This is going to the LA Supreme Court and the fallout is going to be ugly regardless of the verdict.

Either SWB or her successor intentionally fricks St George after losing or St George and it’s residents say “frick this shite” and leave for Texas.

This is happening all over the country.

There are people wanting to take control of their own lives and planning, creating new and separate governments because they see the failures of the governments currently taking their resources. And those failing governments and their allies will strongly fight to prevent people from leaving and doing so.

Unincorporated area brings in $50m or so. That all goes into the general fund, half of which goes straight into the budgets of BRPD and BRFD, neither of which service unincorporated EBR.

I read in the Judge's decision that 2% of sales taxes collected in unincorporated areas goes to the City of Baton Rouge to the tune of $48 million.

Which means almost enough to cover SWB’s catered lunches and a few studies.

That is so absurd that it's crazy. Like it wouldn't matter in BR was productive and crime was zilch but it is literally going to nothing. SWB probably used some of that to city criminals to speak to people about not shooting guns

A tale as old as time. The drive for localized government shared by like-minded people is a defining trait of human history.

Counting down the days until I can do so.

Unfortunately not near as soon as I’d like.

Noticed that the judge is conveniently "retired" now as well. Wonder how much of your tax dollars that fricker got?

He took on the case while retired because something happened with the previous judge IIRC.

He basically found that City of BR is such a cluster frick that another city would cause it to collapse.

Essentially...enjoy your millstone, suckers.

St. George supporters better start 'mostly peaceful protests' at his home immediately, do the same outside his kids homes and businesses

Had they been doing that the ruling would've gone their way

Being 'mostly peaceful' is the answer to the vast majority of our problems

Having a kid in school is even more of a reason to leave. We left and it’s been the best decision possible.

Did the other judge not want to play ball? Sounds like those two old rich bastards and SWB found a judge that would and did.

Holy corruption!!

Can they get to the Supreme Court judges?

Ok, so we have a 'judge' that just basically nullified the results of an election. He pissed in the faces of the citizen's of St. George.
The Civil Rights of the Citizens of St. George have been violated and denied.
His belief is that if St. George is allowed to become a city then the city of baton rouge collapses.
Let it collapse.
Perhaps then something more efficient and not as corrupt can be rebuilt in its' rubble.

This is needed.

This judge is a Coward.

This is so idiotic.

What was SWB’s evidence of her reasonable plan to provide public services? I live here and have seen no evidence of such.

Unless you count the homeless dudes setting up shop along Perkins Road, the proliferation of drag racers shutting down major traffic arteries, escalating crime and failure to maintain drainage ditches. Plus at least our garbage pickup sucks.

I’m sorry St. George. Please appeal.
