Welp - page 9 of 10 is so fricking fundamentally hilarious that the First Circuit may reverse sua sponte.

So, because the City of St. George MIGHT run a deficit without raising taxes (which it has not had the opportunity to try to so since it doesn't exist yet) the court concluded it couldn't fund services.

But, the coup de grace is the statement that because the $48 million would not go to "the City of Baton Rouge" after St. George was "severed from the City of Baton Rouge" that it would have an adverse impact.

holy
fricking
shite

So much stupidity to unpack.

1. St George doesn’t even get a chance to argue their finances despite BR stonewalling them on transition?

2. How does St George get $50m in dedicated legacy costs from parish workers if they are still paying money to the parish?

3. If St George is “severed from the city of Baton Rouge”? How can one be severed when one was never part of it?

It’s a fundamental application of Herr Dr. Goebbels’ rule: if you tell a lie often enough, it becomes the truth.

not just that...since the election, the City/Parish has supposed to have been holding StG's 2% to the side while they've fought the incorporation - which means there should be a nice stack of cash out "of the blocks" for the new city that certainly would overcome any "instant" deficit.

The missing part is the judge’s claim that St George would be responsible for $50m in city-parish legacy costs.

Why that is the case is a good question, as they are still paying their current portion of the city parish services out of that budget. Hence legacy costs would be the parish double dipping from St George.

“Supposed to”.

They blew that shite on hookers and blackjack. At best, St George gets to offset that against any supposed legacy costs BR claims they had.

the decision ... the Judge says:
(1) St. George couldn't afford to pay for services in the Judge's estimation. Yet,

Which makes no sense. The judge admits BR needs tax dollars from SG to balance their budget. The judge is telling us that BR is currently paying for all SG services and some of the BR services with the same amount of tax dollars that somehow SG can’t balance their budget with. Is BR so efficient that they can do both with the same dollar? I don’t think so. The real answer is SG doesn’t get the services we pay for.

Some dirt bag judge decides this. Jesus God.

Central waited patiently. We can, too.
