You make a great point....I'm surprised they didn't rename the bridge today in honor of John Lewis before they rolled him across one last time.

Thats like the third time this week that he's crossed that bridge one last time. Can they pick a side already?

Lewis did to his constituents what Mugabe did to Zimbabwe.

Regular people can’t even have a funeral because of the virus but John Lewis gets 9 funerals.

I particularly remember the integration of the public schools. When I think back to that period of my life it truly seems like a movie I may have watched but it was real.
I'm curious if we watched the same "movie". It was almost like a war zone, at my school. The teachers that were "teaching" just a few years prior were doing there best to keep the class room "CIVIL".
Civility at the time was lacking, if I recall correctly.

Very well said. Younger people have no idea how bad things were for the blacks back in the Jim Crow days. Those that stood up for change faced possible injuries and even death. Lewis was a brave man that day.
Fortunately the sacrifices made by Lewis and all the others helped bring civil rights to blacks. Unfortunately their sacrifice had been squandered as blacks have been used to further socialism and the black culture and black families have taken a major hit.

John Lewis was a vile, lying, white people hating Democrat.
I hope he knew the Lord. He had alot to answer for.

Wow. Now we know TigerCoon. Pitiful for you to say that but it's still a free country.

Another one that went into gov't with nothing and then gain great wealth. Why does that almost always happen with Dims. Can't recall what he accomplished other then being black.

I was a young baw in the 60’s and distinctly remember the social unrest during the civil rights era, I particularly remember the integration of the public schools. When I think back to that period of my life it truly seems like a movie I may have watched but it was real.
This morning as I watch the caisson carry John Lewis body across the Edmund Pettus bridge one last time I think of the brave men and women who locked arms on March 7, 1965 to walk across that bridge in Selma AL. They knew they were in certain danger for bodily harm, including death and they walked anyway.
Congressman Lewis was one of those brave souls who walked across that bridge and he would pay the price for challenging the establishment of that separate but equal era because these civil rights pioneers knew they were yet to be considered equal. Mr Lewis‘ skull was fractured, his body was battered but he sacrificed himself to help move our society forward towards true equality.
I find little in common with John Lewis politically. During his time in Congress Lewis frequently drummed up racial divisiveness for no good reason, he knew the racial aspect of identity politics was a powerful motivator to keep Black Americans voting for the Democrat Party.
I can put my political differences aside and recognize John Lewis’ historical contributions to racial equality, yes, Mr Lewis was a man of remarkable bravery and his steadfast belief in the Democrat Party never wavered. RIP John Lewis.
Video of Selma bridge protest. A truly horrifying display where men and women standing peacefully in their Sunday finest were attacked mercilessly.

Yeah, I hear you. Lewis did show actual courage to march against actual oppression. It’s even understandable if he never trusted or liked white people. Can’t say I entirely blame him.
Wish young people would recognize that guys like Lewis won the battle to give them a better life. There is no reason for them to try to recreate that era. Go live the better life that has been laid out for you.

quote:Well, if he was, how could you really blame him? He was born into a country that despised him upon his first breath. His great-grandfather had been a slave. And there were lynchings all around him.
He didn't become a racist after any march on the 60s. He was one all along.

It's fitting that he is ending by repeating the only important thing he ever did in his life
Just look at all those dindus standing around.
