His and Nungesser's must have atrophied during our CSA monument crisis when we couldn't even get one public statement out of either one.

Instead, both of them went into Mandrake the Magician mode and disappeared, not to be heard from again until it was over.

Then they both emerged from their burrows like political Meerkats with wide staring eyes as though feeling safe that the crisis was over.

At which point Nungesser assured everyone that he would do everything he possibly could to get those valuable historical monuments relocated with someone who would ensure them a safe resting place.

We thought at the time that they were headed for Beauvoir in Biloxi.

They're still in that makeshift, hastily constructed warehouse.

The Liberty Monument is somewhere unknown. But what is known is that what ever its location, it is in pieces.

Nungesser has had as much success with finding new proprietors for the monuments as O.J. has had in looking for the real killers of his wife.

What's significant in all of this is that the real target continues to be, and always has been, that Jackson monument.

Had the dregs been successful in removing that one, the two Meerkats wouldn't have done anything about that one either, and a major part of our history would be gone now along with the others.

Sure, like Gowdy and the rest, Landry and Nungesser will make a lot of noise on issues they feel safe in pressing.

We don't need that level of gutlessness in the state's highest position.

We already have enough of it on the national scene with the Repubs.

Why the only choice at this point is Treasurer Schroder.

Presently he doesn't have the craven label that can be hung on him, and if nothing else he would bring fiscal responsibility to the state - at least theoretically.
