I hate when I hear politicians talk about "Louisiana" when they really mean the "state government of Louisiana". Typically of the last 4 years they have spoken in terms fo saving for Louisiana from the policies of Bobby Jindal.

JBE is running on it.

I didn't care for Jindal simply because of his full time effort to promote his political career while wasting opportunities to make very big changes in Louisiana. However, any conservative that denies Jindal's protection of taxpayers from government is just not honest. He didn't raise our taxes. He tried to cut government although not nearly enough.

JBE says he saved Louisiana. In reality here is what he has done:

He took money from taxpayers to expand government every year he has been in office.

He took money from taxpayers to expand medicaid resulting in huge campaign contributions from health providers for his re-election.

He took money from taxpayers to preserve TOPS while allowing the various state schools to inflate tuition and fees. He saved a welfare program to funnel more money to state bureaucracies is what he did in reality.

He took money from taxpayers to give teachers raises right before the re-election year to make sure the teachers union was with him.

He took money from taxpayers to give to film makers while getting some nice treatment for the himself and his family in Hollywood and getting several movies in Tangipahoa Parish.

He took money from taxpayers and paid DOTD contractors enough money that he packed a fund raiser for his brother in Manchac with DOTD vendors raising I am told over $700K for a local sheriff's race hardly a vendor had a presence in the parish. Pay to play at its boldest.

He took money from taxpayers and took a load of buddies and family for a little trip to Havanna under the guise of "economic development".

This is what he has "saved". He saved the "government class" and those that profit from it.

He is an old school "Boss Hogg" politician and needs to be voted out.

This. IB, you're spot on when it comes to state fiscal issues. You just get a bad proggy rap for being a NeverTrumper due to the whole tariffs issue.

It is Trump that is a "progressive" on tariffs--he even put a radical, failed democrat in charge of the tariff issue.

Amazing how much support a guy that said these things has on this board

From Time Magazine

[quote]The “insufferably bigoted, close-minded, and dangerously well-disciplined storm troopers on the religious right,” he wrote in a 1998 memoir, San Diego Confidential, “wield far too much influence at the ballot box.” The GOP was in thrall to “buffoons, sociopaths, and zealots like Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, and Ralph Reed.” Its economic policies consisted of “tax schemes to further enrich the rich,” and its leaders could not be trusted “to do anything but trash the environment under the phony banner of economic progress.”

Twenty years ago, Navarro was a liberal economist who admired Hillary Clinton, argued for taxing the rich and had run for office as a Democrat four times. Today he is a top economic adviser to a Republican President. As Donald Trump’s director of trade and industrial policy, Navarro is known for his advocacy of tariffs and opposition to trade deals. It is Navarro who has pushed Trump to wage an escalating trade war that pits the U.S. against not only economic adversaries like China but also allies like Canada and the European Union. He is the most powerful person in Washington on the most volatile issue of Trump’s presidency.

The 04-05 total budget was a little over $20 billion and this year it is over $34 billion.

In this booming economy (no doubt due to Trump’s tax and trade policy), Louisiana is largely left out.

JBE sucks.

Dude, we've been over this. Trump believes in Free trade, where BOTH sides are engaging in free trade. What we have had up until this point is no tariffs on imports while those same countries have massive tariffs on goods coming from here. Free trade that is one-sided is just our own government subsidizing offshoring. Trump is using tariffs as a negotiating tactic to get other nations to lower their tariffs on U.S. goods. These tariffs are not meant to be permanent, and most are just designed to be threats to get the other side to the negotiation table.

The reason free trade is being seen as a "prog" issue is because it is being used as part of the whole open borders and transnational movement. "Free" trade is being used as a trojan horse to flood western nations with 3rd world economic migrants and manufactured goods that will collapse their welfare states and destroy their domestic industries. The end game is the elimination of all borders to be replaced with a series of large regional continental unions followed by an eventual worldwide totalitarian socialist government. The continued support of one-sided "free" trade is the support for the continuous march towards the end of this nation and being placed under the yoke of a global communist ruling class.

With that said, let's keep the tariff discussions out of this thread.

Defending Jindal is a non-starter imho...period (2 billion dollars of debt for Louisiana voters).

Defending JBE's Obamacare decision is moronic position to take imo...period. it is simply an economic boondoggle of epic proportions.

JBE has to go, but him shitting on Jindal is fair game.

On a final note...

Attacking Trump's tariffs (and the subsequent promised doom and gloom as a result of them) is moronic as well imo...period.

I am not talking about tariffs. I am talking about progressives and Trump is truly one on the trade issue and embraced and given power to a horrible progressive in Navarro.

Now that is off topic and you and the Dewster started it all.

I know this is off topic but I have a question for you. Are you in line with the Friedman thinking of it really doesn't matter at all if other countries place tariffs on our goods or would you prefer something is done to ensure completely free trade?

we don't run other countries---why punish our consumers and manufacturers with tariffs to try to run other countries?

What are you talking about? If you are talking about the deficit then why not CUT spending, eliminate agencies and film maker welfare ect. instead of raising taxes???

Because GOVERNMENT spends too much does not mean the taxpayers should have to pay for it.

So does tariffs on our domestically made products not hurt our business?

The intention is to paint the opposition in the race, particularly Rispone, as Jindal 2.0

In politics, it is better not to attack the opponent as they are, but to paint your opponent as the one you would rather attack. JBE knows attacking Jindal is good for business, so he will do whatever he can to make voters associate whichever GOP candidate makes it through to the runoff with jindal.
