I think one of the reasons trump is so popular in japan is because that nation is huge on cultural purity and national identity. They are a no-nonsense people who do not tolerate cultural sterilization. They are very protective of their norms.
They appreciate djt's worldview in that regard, because he is big on cultural purity here in the USA.

A big part of Trump's popularity in Asia is a result of his standing up to China. China is a big bully and there is no economy in Asia that can fight it. He is very popular in the small countries too like Singapore for that reason. It is gratifying to them to see a President that doesn't just bend over for Chinese leaders.

We gave them a lot of help post WWII but never tried to totally force western culture upon them. They have undoubtedly embraced some of our better western values, but those are values that they saw as good, and adopted on their own.
Japan is our ride-or-die and I'd love for Australia to be tight with us like that again too.

Also, with birth rates declining, their stance on immigration is evolving.

They may be opening up to immigration for economic reasons, but trust me, they will make sure those immigrants are assimilated
