It isn’t right that the government says I can’t use recreational drugs as an adult

I have never taken any recreational drugs, and have no desire to do so.

However it offends me that the government tells me that I can’t take drugs as an adult. I have no problem with a private employer banning it.

Why should I have to acquiesce to the government making that decision for me as a free person?

this is one area where i am a complete libertarian, if it can be made and is made it should able to be purchased at walmart with proof of ID.The price of pharmaceuticals in this country drop like a rock if this happens, with access to internet most responsible adults will be able to buy what is needed without a $700 bottle of tramadol. For those saying what about the opiod epidemic?? Do you really think it would get much worse?

An entire society of potted up sots, no thx,

I know plenty of heady types who have smoked and tripped themselves stupid over the years. Mental issues aplenty and way behind the curve in earning potential due to lifestyle choices made. They started off smart, imagine if they were already dumbasses.

If you can cede your natural rights to contract with a private company for employment, you can certainly cede the same rights as part of a social contract with a society at large. The pedestal that people place "bidness" on is just amazing at times.

I believe Portugal decriminalized all drugs and their addiction rates dropped. Not saying it will work here but it's definitely worth considering.

But, my contract with a company is voluntary, no?

I don't buy into the social contract nonsense. Contracts are voluntary

Because our current lawmakers are almost entirely baby boomers who grew up learning that Jesus hates weed and masturbation will make you go blind.

One actually has the choice to enter a contract in the former; the latter is unilaterally coerced.

While there is quite a lot about the current state of 'bidnesses' that I take issue with, at least they rely on voluntary transactions.

Yes I see the difference....it is the valuation that I dispute.

They have cops, courts and jails to make you behave according to their morals.

You can take all the recreational drugs you want....

As long as you get a prescription and buy them from a pharmacy.

Millions of people do this every month.

It might not be "right" but it's the current law. If we elect senators and representatives that agree with you then the law can be changed.

The federal government should have zero say in what is and isn't legal for citizens to consume. Period.

At the most, it should be a states rights issue. I'm of the opinion that states shouldn't even be allowed to tell private citizens what they can and cannot do as long as they aren't putting others at risk in the process though.

More weed was smoked in the 70s than today.

You can thank the liberal Supreme Court that has been interpreting the Constitution as they see fit.

100 years ago it actually took a constitutional amendment in order for the federal government to regulate an intoxicant.
