Seems like a double standard

It’s ok if a country responds to attacks, as long as it’s the US?

Yes Trump has the right to tell Israel to pipe down. They got us into this shite. They've accepted a lot of aid from us. Trump has every right to tell them anything he wants.

“Israel should defend itself without US help, but only when the US says it’s ok”

“Israel should just take it & if they don’t they’re trying to undermine US negotiations”

Israel's right to strike back is part of the agreement.

What matters is whether or not Trump can persuade Israel to stop their attacks in Lebanon against Hezbollah, which it is not in their interest to do. (At this moment, the answer seems to be "no.")

Iran doesn't want to have serious talks with us until we rein in Israel, which we may not be able to do. The Israeli government seems to believe that they're going to do whatever they deem necessary in Lebanon because Iran is our problem right now.
