It's going to lead to Bachelor's degrees being the equivalent to a HS diploma. The education bar will be raised because people will be willing to pay (or take out loans they can't afford) for exclusivity on their resume.

I don't know why there isn't a free University of the United States that is virtual and has video lectures from the best professors around the United States on their area of expertise. Testing would be digital and diplomas would be issued to graduates. Classes could be taken at your convenience by pod cast. Seems like a good thing for our Department of Education to do.

just hire on and get OJT
That'll be ripe with nepotism.
I am a STEM guy.
Feel STEM only reason to go to college.
Respect trades, and feel it's a great option for many. Certainly, better than lib arts.
But, let's be honest. Trades are ripe with nepotism in many areas. Kinda like becoming a plant operator, you can get process tech certificate, but it's still tough to get hired without "knowing somebody".

If so then a lot of these build it degrees will disappear to cut costs at colleges

All of this BS is leading to socialism, so in effect.. yes, free education @ the cost of the tax payers.

Gonna be hard to find professors.
The Government will just make it a GS position, and put them on the pay scale. The professors are already doing the indoctrination for the Government, so they might as well start paying them for their time !

The eduindoctrinated form the dim base.

Well if you would read my post I said why, try to keep up.

Most of it is already paid by pell grants anyways. Would lead to more trade workers...

The price of education is either worth it or it isn't. No one has ever squared the "it's an investment in the future" vs. "it should be free" for me.
Looks like you won't be the first.

If the government is already paying the majority of community colleges and there is a shortage of trade workers it would make sense for the government to incentivise trade schools/community colleges as 22 other 1st first countries have.
Yes as kids are told they need a 4 year degree to suceed and that is not true. Many kids dont know about trades and the great life it can provide.

Stop with the free. It's tax payer funded

quote:Again, this is either trying to incentivize the ignorant and unmotivated or it's unnecessary. If you have to be told getting a high-paying job is a good thing... something is deeply wrong. And it's not lack of "free" schooling.
Many kids dont know about trades and the great life it can provide.
Bottom line... if "free" school is a good investment for taxpayers -- it's an even better investment for individuals. They should be more than willing to pay for it.
If I told you... give me $20 and I'll give you back $100... you would not need the government to incentivize that deal. Would you really say: "I'll only do it if the government gives me the $20"?
But thanks for trying.

Community or technical schools, slowly becoming the best form of education now.

why wouldn’t they want an extension of public high schools? at least 4 more years of indoctrination for the masses is a liberal wet dream.

why do y'all think so little of the United States.
Austria. Belgium. Denmark. Finland. France. Germany. Iceland. Italy. Norway. Poland. New Zealand. Russia. Spain. Sweden.
just a few of the countries with free college.
you think the Sorbonne is a bad school? University of Copenhagen? University of Amsterdam? Oslo? Munich? Zurich?
all free.
these rival anything you can get here. and not just free undergrad, even med school is free for most of these.
all these countries have free health care too.
they just better than us, is that what it is? they can figure it out but we cant? we too dumb?

Except HR is changing the pay grades for Equity purposes. In my company, admin assistants are starting to get pay bumps that are almost at the level of field employees. It's fricking insulting and insane. Also, they are giving new hires equal vacation days to veteran employees to remain competitive in the market.
In addition, healthcare coverage is on a tiered payscale now. Those with non-skilled jobs pay a fraction of the premiums that sales and executives pay. etc...

Let’s call it what it is: tax payer funded college. And you think college costs are high now, wait till it’s all taxpayer funded and prices will go up exponentially. But idiots won’t care because they won’t see the bill

Perhaps you have some thinking to do?
