Is that so? And what, may I ask, is your exposure to the criminal justice system?

This remains a mystery - the government way, way overreacted to the dope back in the day. Now it seems like they refuse to admit they were wrong, at least on the Schedule 1 issue.

I'm not arguing about recreational use

I understand, but that is coming. Dozens of states will have legalized recreational MJ, at least in some form by 2025 or 2030 at the latest. It will be the norm, certainly by 2040, and perhaps everywhere except Alabama by then.

On the other hand, "legalization" isn't going to work out exactly as the dopeheads predict - already problems in areas where it is legal. I'm essentially for legalization, personally (and for the record, I don't do any of it, stimulants, except caffeine, opiates, benzos, the dope, alcohol - none of it except caffeine).

However, I want us all to do this with open eyes and not like children getting their way with no thought of the consequences for everyone down the line.

There IS proof that blocking the cannabinoid receptors of the human body can be fatal and at the least really screws people up. Look into Rimonabant: "The FDA's advisory committee raised concerns that based on animal data, it appeared that the therapeutic window with regard to CNS toxicity, and specifically seizures was almost nonexistent; the therapeutic dose and the dose that caused seizures in animals appeared to be the same" (from wikipedia)

ETA: If blocking the reception of cannabinoids is bad for health, the converse is...

Weed >>> alcohol >>>>>> alcoholics

Way better drug, does not impair judgement to the extent of alcohol, especially when driving. It def causes lung damage, but mentally it’s not much more than strong nicotine, except in early stages, when you become hyper high and silly. Why it was ever made illegal is crazy. Between alcohol and weed it’s a much cleaner drug. Anything can be taken to access, but the more sociable drug is weed, long term alcohol is for degenerates, from one who has played both sides.

I can personally attest to the medical benefits of cannabis. A few years ago my liver shut down and I went through months of jaundice and chronic pain. My whole body would itch to the point where I scratched my skin raw and couldn't sleep. I was prescribed tons of Rx meds that had little effect. The only thing that helped me get a good night sleep and alleviate the itching was cannabis. No accepted medical use my arse. Cannabis was a godsend during that time of my life.

Today? Alcohol, Big Pharma, and Profit prisons. Over a century ago it was made illegal to keep Mexican immigrants at bay.

So what. If you can lose your job over it, the injustice is still there.

Contrary to popular belief just because a drug is schedule 1 that doesn’t mean it can’t have medical benefits and be legally prescribed under federal law

The only logical reason I can see for politicians not supporting legalization is that they’ve caved to the interests of the prison industry. Arresting people for stupid crimes like possession of marijuana keeps the prisons full and the revenue flowing.

Really? That’s the ONLY reason you can think of? Not the religious right? Not big pharma? Not the alchohol industry? Not law enforcement? I mean I could go on and on and on but you should use your imagination a little bit here...

Of course it helps people.

The problem is who it hurts.

It hurts big pharm, alchohol, and police budgets. That's 3 powerful groups that don't care for a reduction in their bottom line.

I'm ignorant on this.

How does being on the Schedule 1 list affect bring prescribed under Fed law ?

What about studies to provide proof of benefits?

We have enough evidence for CBD (cannabidiol). It has medical benefits (anti-pain, anti-inflamation, anti-seizure, anti-anxiety) with few to no harmful side effects (malaise, diarrhea, appetite loss) and no psychoactive effects (those are the result of THC rather than CBD).

Schedule 1 means it has no legitimate medical use.

Factually incorrect but facts and logic have no place in government policy.
