It's a simple question to answer, but let's draw it out to 3 actually:

1. Is the USA the greatest nation in recent history (200 years)?

2. Is the USA the greatest nation in the history of the world?

3. Is the USA the greatest nation today?

If you answered yes to all three and want to vote socialism, why are you trying to change what made us great?

If you answered yes to either or both of the first two, what is it about today that's changed?

The USA is the greatest nation to ever exist in the history of the World.

I think one could argue that the United States has done more good for the World than any country or any person EVER, besides Jesus Christ obviously.

Barack Obama - "America is the greatest country in the world and we will fundamentally change it in five days."

If you're looking for rhyme or reason from these loons you'll be looking for some time to come.

On balance, yes. Great Britain was the swinging dick for the first 100 years of that, but the tale of the tape gives the edge to the USA

No. I would say the Roman Empire.

Unquestionably.

No. I would say the Roman Empire.

This is certainly debatable, but the plebs were struggling still. The Roman Empire is the most dominant in history, but as far as being one of great freedoms and prosperous people the USA is superior.

Don’t necessarily disagree, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on why the Roman Empire is/was greater than the United States of America. I’m legit curious.

In the last 100 years, the USA made advancements that make the Roman Empire look like a 5 year old trying to learn the alphabet.

Our system of government, easily outweighs the Roman Empire. Not even close.

I truly believe the Hand of God touched our founding fathers when they were creating this country.

The list of what Rome and the Roman did in over 5 centuries is a list too long.

Gibbon is a great place to start.

You didn't give any specific criteria by which to measure, so I just considered Rome and its place/dominance in the "known" Western world for its time.

Let's be clear, it's damned close and I could not say that if someone put the USA as #1 they'd be off base.

Both Rome and the USA were hyperpowers at their height, certainly lone superpowers for their time.

I think Rome has the edge in terms of scope and influence for its world at that time. They had fricking walls on the current border of Scotland. This would basically be the same as a moon colony today. Rome was also much longer lived (so far). Finally, if you snapped your fingers and removed Rome from the history books, this world would be far worse off than if the USA never came to be.

Just one man's opinion.

Yeah because a list of American accomplishments in 2.5 centuries can be knocked out in 500 words or less...

I can’t disagree with much of what you said.

I would say this is without question a two dog hunt, and those two dogs are the USA and the Roman Empire.
