Also sad that this lecturer is teaching the next generation.
Universities used to discuss great literature now they discuss Disney movies for prepubescent girls?

Does the format of the paragraph on the poster bother anyone else? Not a fan of writings that space like that.
I do like how they had to write in her email address as they forgot to include it on the poster.
Also, it is a story loosely based off of a Polynesian myth. Not sure how faithful to any such story the movie is, but it's funny trying to pin things on Western Civilization.
The professor got her B.A. at Loyola in New Orleans. Anyone know her? Ha.

Extended rape metaphor? Metaphors are a construct of the works creator. You can't just say something is a metaphor because you think it is.
If you could, then I might say that Ace Ventura: Pet Detective is an extended metaphor for the evils of transgenderism and it's causal role in animal cruelty. You can call me Dr. Goose now and I'll be giving a very credible lecture on this topic at Hooter's on Siegen.

Wow.
I thought it was about a kick-arse woman who doesn't take no as an answer, and loves to sail.
I mean, it sure seemed like a women empowerment film to me.

So a film with no white people in it is about western oppression.
I'm guessing her thought process is, that white people wrote the movie, and thus, their oppression was baked in.

Of course it's a white woman telling us how we are offending non-whites.

Because this is what Disney cartoons featuring female heroines are known for.

It is clear that the chicken character is very degrading to animals and the pig friend represents law and order...
Just kidding.
But isn't crazy lectures what makes college fun?

The trigger warning got me.
Moana is the classic hero tale told through a feminist lens. It's archetypal, which is why it resonates, while also flipping the typical savior role to belong to the usual victim (the princess).
It also comments on the greed of civilization, which is mostly a construct of man (as opposed to woman), and its wanton disregard for nature, which is largely associated with the feminine. It is a woman who tames the man (Maui) and, through her courage and tenacity, restores the heart of nature that had been stolen by man to create civilization and ultimately restores balance. She then leads her explorer kinsmen on the journey into the chaotic, natural unknown, herself now a wayfinder (having learned from the greatest of men), to discover new islands and new life, with the inference that, with the heart of nature restored, they will bring the civilization they find into balance with nature.
It may also be read as a call to action, to have mankind return to its roots as explorers and seekers of new life rather than as people seeking to simply build up the civilization that has grown before us.
It's grade a storytelling with a theme that probably pisses a lot of posters on this board right the frick off.

The rape metaphor may be more about Maui stealing the heart of Tefiti than anything to do with Moana herself.

For real though, i love Moana and this is sad.
If my kid wants to watch a movie, I'm suggesting Moana every time.
