Seems to me that it is, since the student is receiving a benefit based solely on his/her race and which is denied to anyone not of the same race. Yet, incredibly, the practice still exists in America.

What say ye?

Not if it's a private university, but absolutely yes if it's a public university.

It should not be allowed. The underlying assumption is that non-whites need extra help. That's okay, except that there are just as many poor white kids out there who need financial assistance too.

White kids from poorer families are at a huge disadvantage.

Why would that matter? I;m not asking if it's legal. I'm asking it it's racist. Racist is racist, doesn't matter if the school is private or not IMO

Not racist by definition, but definitely racial profiling.

Not quite as racist as not letting a race attend a university, but it hasn't been that long, relatively, since that was pretty common

You just happen to be living during the "Sorry about that" era

Not even sure what the next era is, though

Does the school accept Government Grant dollars for research? If YES then it absolutely it should not.

Really? They're favoring one race over another, assisting one race over another. They're saying "If your skin is THIS color we have money for you. If your skin is THAT color, we don't.

That's not racist?

Btw, just for context, I'm asking this question because the president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary announced today at the Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Birmingham that his seminary now has scholarship money set aside exclusively for African American students. I get it that they want more black students at their school. It just seems that they're committing an immoral act to do it.

Spur is 100% correct. People seem to have trouble grasping that racism and discrimination are not the same thing.

I see. They don't have any scholarship funds for other racial demographics?

Then, yeah.....racist. sorry I was thinking just one race in a lineup of other options. My bad.

What "era" are you living in?

What "era" are looking for next?

Perhaps the everyone stop whining and learn from the past "era". That seems like the best option...

I am sure when Whites are the minority in America they will be provided the same privileges. Right?

I listened to his report. What he said was that there are scholarships for all students, regardless of race, and scholarships available only to African American students.

It just seems anachronistic to me. Again, I understand that if you are the president of a seminary in a city that is majority black, and your school is majority white, then you want more black students. I get it. But the racial disparity at his school has less to do with racism, and more to do with the demographics of the Southern Baptist Convention, which is majority white.

University scholarships should be based on merit.
However, big donors should be able to be as prejudiced as they wish in regards to who gets a scholarship from their endowment.
The worst I've heard on race is one that only goes to a black applicant who has served time in prison for killing a white.
The weirdest is Duke U. Scholarships for people who can prove they are a direct descendant of a Huguenot.
