He was a lawyer, not intel. He went to the Ivy league on merit, not his last name, and he had to work his way through.
Yeah, he was a lawyer working for a SEAL team and at Guantanamo, not representing enlisted soldiers in DUI cases. He was in deep with the national security intelligence apparatus.
And I'm not suggesting he is a silver-spoon guy, he's just not an "ordinary guy." He's been constructing his life to go into politics since he was in his 20s, has never worked for anyone but the government, and has been an elected politician since his early 30s. He's not an ordinary guy. He also is terrible at faking being an ordinary guy.

Of course not. He's governor of the third most populous state in the country. He's still more of an "everyday guy" than any of the others.

No, he wasn't.

I wonder if a 10" likeness of the "lil rotund pip-squeeke" could be marketed as a dog toy?
I wonder!!

He just happened to advise a SEAL Team and then the Guantanamo detention center, before getting sent to Iraq during "the surge." Totally normal run of the mill postings for a JAG officer.

Compared to the greeter at Walmart, no. In the context of politics, especially at the "running for president" level, he's more ordinary than most. I've said before that his political focus is a negative for me, I just think it's outweighed by other positives.
I don't want the greeter at Walmart to run Florida or the nation.

Do you even understand what he did in either role?

I think the North Dakota Governor seemed more like an “everyday guy” than anyone else on the stage last night.

Yes, I agree. I just think he should be selling himself as "I am laser-focused, hyper-competent, and aggressive" rather than trying to come across as something that he is not, and is not capable of faking.

Sure. His theatrics are more polished.

It is funny you ask it. I believe a higher percentage of our potential leaders, as well as professional athletes, are on the spectrum as compared to the percentage of the general population.
I don’t think so. Most of them have the glib charm that eludes people on the spectrum. Even someone like DeSantis is much more comfortable interacting with tons of other people than you or I would be and only looks stiff next to other politicians. I do think that 100% of politicians are on the narcissism spectrum

Just about the time you think you’ve seen everything on this board then comes along something setting an even higher (or lower) bar in ridiculousness.
Not everyone has the gift of gab or charisma. In fact, most people DON’T. That’s why the ones who do usually rise high in their respective field (whether they are actually competent or not).
Ever since JFK vs Nixon, for better or worse, in this visual age people are going to put as much premium (maybe more sometimes) on style as they do substance.
Like Scott Walker a few years ago, DeSantis is a hell of a conservative governor and probably would be a hell of a conservative president.
He’s not a natural in the gab/charisma department. Whether he can overcome that or not is the question. It’s no reflection on his ability to actually govern.
Obama was about as smooth, comfortable, glib and visually effective as they come but I wouldn’t pay you a nickle for his actual policies or governance.

Republicans voters calling their most successful governor autistic is a great visual of the current state of the party
I guess that depends on your personal view of the "autism scale" and the autistic.
Personally, I think it quite possible that Ron does fall somewhere on that scale. And I see that as more of a positive than a negative.
I guess that sentiment isn't shared across the voting base (or whatever want to call this shite show).
