Yes, I am the one that has no clue. Shipping the concrete to these remote locations would cost several times more than the concrete itself.

What is your experience in construction?

Someone in this thread said his company bid 37b. I said I thought 22b, but that this is 'murica and that it could be done for under 20. Without specs, it's hard to say.

Thinking that you can add material and labor and come up with a cost is ridiculously childish.

if it costs 50b, it's worth it. Do it right.

Who cares? Mexico is paying for it. Try to keep up.

I can tell how big of a moron you are when I see "10 feet wide." A freaking foundation shear wall supporting a 400+ foot tall high rise is 12" thick.

Concrete at 1100 every 10 yards adds up quick. And that's just material.

To those of you who think that is feasible, I give you a simple challenge. Go find a contractor and ask them if they'd build a wall with concrete and brick with these dimensions: 30 feet tall 10 feet wide 1 mile long 12.5 million dollars, and additional miles out in the middle of nowhere on top of that.

You can't find a contractor that will build a fully functional (kitchen, bath, plumbing, electric, concrete slab, brick wall, tile floors and shingle roof) 100 square foot house for $13,000 dollars either. But you can find tons that will build 2000 square feet for $260,000.

You can't look at it as just one mile.

Let me just say this about everyone's "reasonable estimates": unless you have experience with federal bureaucracy, you're underestimating by a hell of a lot.

Except for the Obamacare estimates, right? I bet those were right on the money... especially in the months leading up to passing it. You bought the numbers hook, line, and sinker, didn't you? Then, once proven grossly wrong, you justified it to yourself. Amirite?

I know, last year was crazy. Never would have thought that someone would nominate a terrible candidate only to think they would win because she was a woman...

that's $2,367/lf...sounds like a low estimate to me.

You really don't

They would set up batch plants as they progressed.

quote:

ASTM C-94, Specification for Ready-Mixed Concrete, does place a time requirement on delivered concrete. The document states that discharge of the concrete shall be completed within 1 ½ hours after the introduction of the mixing water to the cement and aggregates, or the introduction of the cement to the aggregates. But the document clearly states these limitations can be waived by the purchaser if the concrete slump is such that the material can be placed without adding water.

Cheaper than that: Nope. Litigation costs alone will be mind-boggling. The vast majority of land along the border is privately owned. I guess they're just going to force all those citizens to sell their land. Or will they just seize it? So much freedom and liberty, right?

How much space is needed for a wall? Right offhand, I'd think many property owners would like to have a wall rather than a steady stream of illegals coming through.

Yeah...like we were "dumb enough" to think that Trump would win POTUS.

Wonder how much drug money flows out of this Nation and over that Border? That Wall is going up, regardless!

You are assuming those dimensions. More than likely it will be built like a T wall (Ironic that the Trump wall will be a T wall??).

These is also a company who is designing a machine that will build a wall similar to that with minimal labor. It is like the machines that are used to build sidewalk curbs but on a much larger scale. It has a sleeve that is the form for the wall and concrete is pumped into it and as the machine creeps along the wall is laid out. There would be steel posts vibrated down into the earth for stability.

The study I read back in 2008 (from when the wall was actually approved) was that the wall would be built 30 feet or so on our side and there would be gravel roads on both sides for the border patrol to drive on and inspect. The report also said that the border patrol vehicles should have ground penetrating radar and that will look for tunnels. With an addition of cameras along the border could be secured fairly easily.
