How do you know what the people want? The problem with leveling the country now is that’s a good way to turn the people against us.

How long was this war supposed to last? 4 weeks?
It looks like it’s just the beginning. I expect prices to go up and stay up for many things. Inflation 2.0.
In the end, the United States will walk away with their tail between their legs. Other nations will hate us more. There won’t be a regime change and Iran will think they won the war against the mighty united states
It’s time to bring our troops home. Trump is confident in the damage that he left. If Iranians don’t want to take over their government, we aren’t going to force them to make changes.
Thanks for your attention to this matter
I haven't spoke to one person since this military operation kicked off who believes Operation Epic Fury would last a few weeks. The consensus from the people I've spoken with is the US is in it and now there is no retreat, no turning back the clock, it's victory or defeat. The main disagreement we have tossed around is the timing of the operation, however, we all agree this confrontation with Islam and the West was unavoidable and inevitable.
One thing we generally agree on is the Democratic Socialists likely take control of Congress if the US doesn't wrap this operation up by early summer and with a resounding victory.
Pray for the POTUS, pray for our brave soldiers, pray for a swift victory and pray for peace in the ME/Iran.

SFP has a GIF for this line of thinking.

That’s why you kill them
If only it were that simple
And if only that power vacuum wouldn't create mass conflict and sectarian violence with even worse groups vying to power
But I imagine you're the type to think this is a binary conflict

Look. I’m not going to play some game where we all pretend Iran wasn’t in the brink of revolution and Iranians weren’t dancing in the streets when the Ayatollah was killed. I’m also not going to pretend that we are specifically NOT leveling the country, avoiding power plants and critical infrastructure, to preserve something for Iran post-caliphate.
You don’t have to like the war and that’s a fair criticism of Trump, but the gaslighting and wish casting imminent doom is getting a bit ridiculous.

The regime is a group of religious fanatics who have indoctrinated their rank and file in the armed forces into believing their fight with the US is an existential battle of good and evil (where the US is the devil in this scenario).
They're not going to be toppled easily because they've secured all the critical points of regime stability. When you have the cops and armed forces on your side, you're going to be hard to topple. Most successful revolutions involve the law enforcement and military either stepping out of the way or switching sides.
Until the cops, general army, and republican guard flip or stand aside, we're going to be fighting the regime.
I've said it before and said it again: there is one way for the US to win this war without boots on the ground and it would make MacArthur's recommendation during the Korean War look like child's play.

You can say that about removing any murderous regime. So the world must tolerate murderous regimes? That’s dumb logic.

I'm over 40 now.
Iran has "been on the brink of revolution" basically my entire adult life. 20+ years.
When I was in undergrad (2001-2005) the liberal profs swore Iran was about to revolt. This is a hard-line DEM belief. I'm shocked so many professed conservatives are adopting their talking points.

We assassinated the head of a major world religion after we feigned peace talks.
WE are a murderous regime.

Are you ignorant to the history of the Middle East and Central Asia? Specifically the Muslim countries? Have you not paid attention in the past 30 years?
You're literally recycling war on terror talking points and replacing Saddam with the Iranian regime. The literal exact arguments were made on here 20 years ago to justify invading, Iraq and Afghanistan. People like me told you it was a bad idea for the same reasons that I'm telling you. It's a bad idea today. I was right then.
You think this is just going to be some outlier in history? The situation sucks and that's why they call it a quagmire

The funny thing to me is if you had the same kind of protests/uprising in Eastern Europe, 90% of this board would call it a NED/USAID/CIA engineered color revolution.

No shite.
