I know todays stuff is so much better but a South Dakota class ship was nothing to laugh at.
A 16" main gun could launch a 2000 pound projectile 23 miles. And a each one had 9 such guns, each with 2 RPM firing rate.
That is a lot of hell to rain down on someone.

As another poster noted, placing your military assets in a confined, restricted space is not a wise strategic decision. It would be a turkey shoot for our Navy and air power.
