There seemed to be a large number of Iranian backed militia that were surrounding the US Embassy. And their main handlers?
Not sure why they all needed to be there.

Well yes. We worry. Do we worry more that our leaders do nothing to oppose Iran supporting attacks on US Embassies or that we give consequences?
