Nooses - actual nooses, not just a slip knot or a loop used as a pull handle - had been used an execution method for a long time in many places before the left in this country decided they’re hate symbols.

Always have been, and sincerely do not realize it. They have this stupid idea that only southerners can be racist.
Things I heard while living up north before escaping that are totally not racist:
“Black people move to Milwaukee from Chicago for better welfare”.
Boomers without guile or malice using the n-word like it’s a social acceptable, normal everyday word.
A blonde co-worker joking with me about hanging our black boss, in front of him. I quietly noped out of that one as fast as I could, and for some reason never saw her again.
I could go on all day, but I’ll stick to these highlights.
Things I heard while living up north before escaping that are totally not racist:
