You beat me to it. But yeah.
The Trump Admin’s rationale for continuing the war changes by the week, if not by the day.

Wish we could have reps and senators focus on their own primaries but goons like you make that trumps job.
Goons like me? It isn’t me you should be worried about.
The feckless Repubes can’t even muster enough votes to pass the SAVE ACT. If the Dems once again gain control of Congress, what Ayatollah is cowering in an Iranian bunker will be the least of our worries.
How about we focus on driving the collectivists out of our own country? And secure a true MAGA agenda instead of wasting American blood and treasure securing a Greater Israel?

Any idea of the manpower that would take?

Because then we would have to spend billions of dollars, plus time and lives controlling and defending it?

To blow it all up makes zero sense.
Occupying it for years likewise makes zero sense.

Why should the U.S. bear the primary burden — in blood, money and strategic risk — in protecting the economic stability and domestic sovereignty of these other regional powers in the Gulf?
In a general sense, we shouldn't. In this specific instance, we started the entire situation so its consequences are ours to own.

Wait for the ships to pas through the straight then seize every single one of them.

Can't seize it from the sea or air. See all the hand wringing about what's going on now? Imagine boots on the ground.

We don’t really have a great answer to the drone swarms yet. Are you ready to see US soldiers and marines getting killed by FPV drone strikes on Twitter and YouTube? Like you see from Ukraine?
I think we will develop countermeasures. But we don’t appear to have them yet…

This begs the question: does further escalation actually improve U.S. security?
It risks becoming a variation of the sunken cost fallacy.
We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly in past U.S. military interventions: when past strategies have faltered, there’s a tendency to double down rather than reassess — this is what fueled the “surge” mentality in Iraq.
