re: In theory, would you be OK with only letting citizens vote if they filed their taxes?

Land owners only. You have to own a piece of the country to vote.

That’s so dumb so if you rent you can’t vote sounds like communism to me

Voting should only have 3 requirements valid id, 21 and older, lived in your state for at least 6 months.

The only reason those ideas are behind us is because we believe them to be and aren't teaching our children differently. The federal government is going to continue to grow until we put a stop to it.
We will just have to agree to disagree. As much as I would like it to, I don’t believe that there is any chance of this government ever shrinking. Hell, in 2009 we had one trillion dollar stimulus and people freaked out about it, now we have three separate multi trillion dollar stimulus and people don’t even blink.
However, I am teaching my children to be self reliant and not count on the government for anything, and hopefully I am wrong and a true conservative generation comes out of all of this mess

See, that's reasonable. But only allowing land owners to vote is the diametrical opposite of communism.

So since I rent bc I’m on disability I can’t vote I just don’t think that’s fair. I’m an American too who believe in free and fair elections but born with a disability out of my control. I should vote

Also no one with a rap sheet misdemeanor or felons don’t matter if you spent at least one night in jail you can’t vote.

And that's an argument worth making. I think there needs to be a minimum threshold to vote that demonstrates investment. I'm not very picky as long as it's consistent and rational.
I think owning land is a good one. I'm good with a period of time to establish residency. Robert Heinlein put forth military service as a potential requirement. Just something to make sure you have skin in the game.
I don't think everyone should have the right to vote and I think it's demonstrable why. I would also like to see the federal government's power reigned in to the point that they work for us again, not the other way around. And I despise the idea that government is owed taxes.

So you think that a 50 year old who has had a good job since he was 19 shouldn’t be able to vote because he got caught with beer at 18, but it’s unfair that someone who is on disability that has never paid a dime into the federal system wouldn’t be able to vote?
This is the problem you get into when you use anecdotes to argue policy.

How are you to fund the government, even in a limited capacity, if not via taxes?
Are you for going back to tariffs?

Yes if I can’t vote bc I’m not a land owner no one whose ever been arrested should vote. I have never been arrested so if I can do it every body can. Don’t need criminals voting
Posted on 4/7/21 at 8:50 am to dltigers3
Crime would go down too bc if your arrested your name is taken off the voting books

Give me a limited capacity government and we'll discuss it.
I don't pretend that we're ever getting away from taxes. The ability to tax is the ability to rule. But the implication that we have to be in favor of taxes or the government will fall apart begs the question of why do we have to have all this government?

Deal!
Although, I’m not for the land owner stipulation, I’m in favor of tax payers

Also speeding tickets if you had any interaction with a cop you can’t vote.

I think we should just simply make people pass a civics test to vote.
Use the following fact pattern to answer questions 6-10:
LaTisha doesn't have a job, but really wants the new $1,200 iPhone 11. She never graduated high school, and has 8 kids by 6 different fathers.
6) If LaTisha wants to take advantage of the Good and Plenty Clause of the US Constitution to save money for her iPhone, which program would help her get the iPhone the fastest?
a) Virginia's Planned Parenthood's post-birth abortion program
b) Medicaid
c) Claiming she owns a qualifying minority-owned business and getting a COVID relief loan which she will not have to pay back
7) If LaTisha wants to pay out her iPhone over time, while never actually making payments, which US government Bureau should she contact?
a) The IRS
b) The Department of Minority Services
c) The CFPB
8) If LaTisha is saving her money for the iPhone, but is arrested for possession of a controlled substance greater than 4 grams, who should she contact?
a) The ACLU
b) A local bail bondsman
c) A intrastate moving company
d) b & c
9) LaTisha just got her new iPhone 11. However, she's unable to make the payments to keep her service connected. Who should she contact?
a) AT&T
b) Al Sharpton
c) CNN Headline News
10) LaTisha lost her phone while stealing an Uber Eats driver's car, killing the driver in the process. What's the safest way for her to retrieve her new iPhone 11 from the overturned car?
a) Ask the local PD to retrieve the phone
b) File a stolen phone claim with her carrier
c) Steal her sister's iPhone 11 and claim it's hers

The better plan would be to fix the tax code to where everyone actually paid taxes. The income tax should be eliminated and instead institute a VAT tax. This way ALL consumers pay taxes at the same rate.

This surely won't be abused.

You also got to make 100,000 a year or you can’t vote
