Impeachment committee = free pass for issuing subpoenas for everything from Trump's taxes to his colonoscopy results, and any attempt that Trump makes to fight them in court they will use as evidence of him obstructing justice. They know it will go nowhere in the Senate, but they do not care. This is about getting dirt on Trump that will be leaked to the media to help them win next year; not about conviction and removal from office.
Of course it will blow up in their face.

They have no choice, he baited them into it by going after Biden. If Dems do nothing Biden looks as guilty as he actually is. He tied Dem's hands with the Biden bomb, they have no choice.

Nadler and a few other Democrats are facing far left primary challengers so they have to push for impeachment to appease their base. It may not make sense nationally, but it does make sense for a few people trying to hold on to power.

I think this is all about the Supreme Court. RBG has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. A Senate trial could bog down a potential SCOTUS appoint to replace RBG...They have been going after Kavanaugh again and I think this is all tied together.
