I am an Attorney, so I know most people hate lawyers until they need a good one. But I am wondering what the board's opinion is of those who specialize in Immigration law.

Are they
(A) destroying the fabric of the republic by representing illegal aliens?

(B) simply a necessary evil?

(C) just like any other attorney who helps protect someone's rights and guide them through the legal process?

(D) righteous crusaders for justice?

I ask the question presuming that these guys are behaving within the boundaries of the law and legal ethics.

My firm has a huge H1B (and all the other ones) practice. And that's primarily what they do...help the hires (and businesses hiring them) navigate the legal process correctly.

why do you think this board thinks that legal immigration is an issue? why would a person helping a person immigrate legally be seen negatively by this board?

A girl I went to law school with is an immigration attorney in California. She is pretty far left, but she is a great person and a great attorney. I'd say she is B) and C). One thing I'll always respect her for is calling out everyone on the Left for being outraged about the kids/parents being separated at the border. She would ask everyone, "Where the frick were you when Obama was President? This isn't new." She actually called a lot of people out over their selective outrage. It would be nice to think a lot more immigration attorneys out there like her

The firms that I know much about personally primarily represent people who entered the country illegally or overstayed a visa and are trying to find a way to remain here without being deported.

There are firms, primarily business firms that arrange for work visas for foreign nationals and the like, but those aren't the ones I am asking about.

In 2002 I did a Lexus-Nexus search of non-profits located in the U.S. who provided legal services for ILLEGAL aliens. I got over 100 hits.

I have no problem with immigration lawyers for legal immigrants. Those providing services for criminal aliens should be taken out and shot.

And since I have NEVER needed an attorney (and I've only got a few years to go in this life) I have a perfect right to hate lawyers.

Never had to probate a family member's will? Or get one drafted for you and yours?

Illegal immigrants have cash. Not all is wired to Mexico monthly. My impression of illegal immigration attorneys is they are enriching themselves in a deep market. More struggling attorneys would get into that if they spoke Spanish. As far as the effect on society or the "fabric" or "values", that's a joke. It's about the shekels.

Lawyers are mostly like police officers. There are bad eggs, and the bad eggs get a lot of press.

Nope. But people are telling me that I really should make out a will (like 10 years ago). How much does one cost?

One hires a lawyer to draft a will like they hire someone to cut their grass. Not because they can't do it just as well themselves, but because they don't want to spend the time doing it. The only difference the will is going to cost a lot more than a yard although the intellectual capacity to do either is the same.

One guy told me that if you write your will yourself you need to do it by hand instead of typed so that if it's contested after you die then family members can say 'Yep, that's Zach's handwriting.'

But nowadays almost nothing is handwritten. I don't know how many people alive today have seen my handwriting.
