Whitaker was the head of Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) from 2014-2016. Fact is a dark-money-funded conservative organization which has filed complaints and called for investigations into dozens of Democrats and had a special emphasis on Hillary Clinton.
He is a lap dog for Senator Grassley. His allegiance to Grassley goes all the way back to when Grassley nominated Whitaker to be the U.S. Attorney in Iowa, at a time when Whitaker's trial experience amounted to a total of 3 cases.
Whitaker has allegedly been providing inside information to Trump on the Mueller investigation durig his time as Sessions' assistant.

Sessions wasn't being kept abreast of the Mueller investigation, so how would that have been possible?

But he has a R behind his name as it should be. Because the President has an R behind his name and the DOJ is a executive branch function that serves at the pleasure of the Executive just like they have done in prior administrations and party affiliations.

He is and has been a political operative. That (unfortunately) doesn't technically disqualify him as AG, but doesn't mean he should be AG.
