Yeah and knowing that on a couple of occasions we've gone precariously close - by accident. Having witnessed how easily a blue on blue kill can develop - a nuclear woops is even more frightening.

"They are great fiction, but not analogous to potential futures", they said in 1935 pre-war Germany.

Is this supposed to be news to someone?

Your brain is on idle this morning. Youre having arguments that arent even being made.

You were the one confused about me saying that previously

Why would anyone want to "survive" in a world after it was nuked

Not to mention all the wonderful architecture constructed by The Ancients.

Yeah that's the thing. There is a weird apocalypse fetish on here where people seem to be begging for that reality in some weird halcyon view of a post-apocalypse.

That's why when I engage on the subject I ask them if they believe they're capable of murdering non-threatening children they encounter.

Because that's what you have to do in that scenario.

I have to imagine we’d be able to re-disseminate “societal knowledge” a bit easier than people from the Bronze Age or even Ancient Rome. I’m not sure in what scenario we’d “collapse” and that would all just globally go poof.

It’s like climate change predictions. Who can guess what the weather and environment would be like?

It wouldnt.

It would take a long time to reach where we are, but I dont want that.

Well imagine what 20 years of no electricity and constant violent conflict would do to that collective knowledge, and then you have another generation who has no concept of it. So much of our societal knowledge is kept electronically that it's not very difficult (in an apocalypse scenario) for it all to go away quickly.

Whatever society emerged after the violence subsided (years after the fall) would be more focused on re-learning the technology of the past than our present. Basic farming, irrigation, hunting, etc.

Stuff like written language dies out quicker than you'd think. A generation or 2.

Sure, the grid can be damaged. But what about the millions of generators that exist, as well as local power plants that can quickly be rerouted to power the local populace? The grid as a whole could be taken offline, but locales could still have power.

The concern would be metro areas. Not a lot of power plants in the middle of Manhattan or Atlanta, and those places will go Lord of the Flies in two weeks or less with the outside world hampered from helping them like what happens after a hurricane.

I'm not saying it would be a reset, but it could/would be a serious, serious trajectory change. We're not talking about resetting a breaker, we're talking about replacement parts not existing.

I have to imagine you don't have much experience (personally or socially) with real Evangelical types.

This apocalypse fetish plays into their view of the rapture. They have been programed to want this sort of outcome.
