A group of 43 senators — 29 Republicans and 14 Democrats — wants to implement a law that would make it a felony for Americans to support the international boycott against Israel, which was launched in protest of that country’s decades-old occupation of Palestine. The two primary sponsors of the bill are Democrat Ben Cardin of Maryland and Republican Rob Portman of Ohio. Perhaps the most shocking aspect is the punishment: Anyone guilty of violating the prohibitions will face a minimum civil penalty of $250,000 and a maximum criminal penalty of $1 million and 20 years in prison.
The bill’s co-sponsors include the senior Democrat in Washington, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, his New York colleague Kirsten Gillibrand, and several of the Senate’s more liberal members, such as Ron Wyden of Oregon, Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, and Maria Cantwell of Washington. Illustrating the bipartisanship that AIPAC typically summons, it also includes several of the most right-wing senators such as Ted Cruz of Texas, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Marco Rubio of Florida.

Further proof that the Israelis own almost every single politician in Washington D.C. This bill is not constitutional, as it clearly prohibit acts that would be defined as political speech. That we have 43 Senators supporting this shows how easy it is for politicians to disregard our Constitution and how stupid our politicians are.

Is this real life? And Congress thinks this is most deserving of their time?

You mean AIPAC money has irreparably corrupted both US political parties!? Why hasn't the media informed people about this!?

Here is a link to the actual bill on the Senate website:
S.720 - Israel Anti-Boycott Act
There appears to be two primary provisions:
Does speaking in support of it count? Does just providing any support, even unrelated to the boycott, to a boycotting organization count?
Most importantly, why do we keep making more unnecessary laws, but aren't taking any of them away?
S.720 - Israel Anti-Boycott Act
There appears to be two primary provisions:
quote:
The bill prohibits U.S. persons engaged in interstate or foreign commerce from:
quote:I guess I can understand this one. It's not specific to a single country, and it involves a direct attempt to get a foreign nation to interfere with another (friendly) foreign nation.
requesting the imposition of any boycott by a foreign country against a country which is friendly to the United States
quote:Now this one is asinine. First of all, why do we single out Israel? Second, what does "supporting" a boycott mean?
supporting any boycott fostered or imposed by an international organization, or requesting imposition of any such boycott, against Israel.

He was not anti-Israel. He was anti right/Likud and pro labor/leftist party
He signed on massive military aids and freebies

That's dumb.
You should be able to buy, or NOT buy, from whomever.
(weird national security corner cases aside)

Shows the authors bias.
Also...while I don't agree with the bill it does not criminalize someone personally boycotting Israel. It prevents us persons from requesting the imposition of a boycott against Israel. It also prevents us persons from requesting imposition of any boycott by a foreign country against a country which is friendly to the United States.
Very poorly worded bill, IMO...but not exactly what the author says it is either.

I don't understand how this works.
How do they go after you for a "financial boycott" of Israel?

quote:That is one part of it, but that also extends to all friendly foreign countries, but his part is also included and specific to Israel.
hile I don't agree with the bill it does not criminalize someone personally boycotting Israel. It prevents us persons from requesting the imposition of a boycott against Israel.
quote:The imposition request part is rendundant with the other provision that extends to all countries. HOWEVER, it explicitly states "supporting any boycott."
supporting any boycott fostered or imposed by an international organization, or requesting imposition of any such boycott, quote:
against Israel.
I don't even know what support means in this context.

We now have a list of 43 senators who unequivocally need to be voted out of office
Posted on 7/20/17 at 2:07 pm to silverdude
FBI needs to open up an investigation of every single member of congress wanting to vote in favor of this.
No doubt they have shady dealings with Israel that are illegal.
