Yep. Most of the few tariffs Trump actually enacted were kept by Biden. He raised a bunch of them in May.

Yep. We’ve had solar panel tariffs since 2017. No new significant increase in domestic production. Just higher prices.

It’s why Biden raised it in May—it’s not working. So do more! Classic government. But it will be different when Trump does it.

Less consumer choice for Europeans, their loss.

Probably one of the main reasons Volkswagen sucks, no incentive to improve.

So I will take that as a no. Why is that the case then?

Its not a benefit to the people.

So tariffs are why we had half of the world's GDP after WWII, not the fact that England, Japan, Germany, Russia, France, China, Poland, Korea, and several more countries depended upon the US to supply food and building/industrial supplies to rebuild their countries and feed their citizens for at least a decade and a half after the war?

It wasn't that, it was the tariffs?

Good grief.
Post-WWII England, Japan, Germany, Russia, France, China, Poland, Korea, and several more countries depended upon the US to supply food and building/industrial supplies to rebuild their countries for at least a decade and a half after the war.

But by 1960, as they were getting their post-war sea legs, they began implementing protectionist measures to limit access of better, cheaper American goods into their markets.

We were so far in the lead economically that we made nice, did our allies a favor, and rolled with the punches. Fast forward 60yrs, and the favor of unbalanced trading practice has become expectation. Amazingly, many Americans see no problem with it, or with the $1T annual trade deficit it entails.

Not with American made cars.

The VAT on a Corvette imported to Germany is 19% of the vehicle's purchase price or value. In addition to the VAT, there is also a 10% import duty on the vehicle. The customs duties are also subject to the 19% VAT.

The purpose of any future tariffs is not to restrict/increase cost imports into the US. That is a short-term impact for sure.

The reason is to open up markets to US manufacturing that are not allowed to compete due to unfair tariffs. US tariffs could be applied and once an agreement of free markets are in place the tariffs come down.

Just like it did here LINK

Good.
China is not our friend.
Meanwhile, we need to level the trade playing field.

If China collapses because of it, too bad ... so sad ....

Where will these workers come from?

Hint: Yall want most deported.

Low level mfg is never returning to the USA. Even with subsidies (tariffs) our labor is too expensive for world markets.

This is willful destruction of a worker environment by our own govt, China is not doing this.

That is deflecting to a different subject/discussion.

You understand now why tariffs are needed? It is to level the playing field abroad. Once fair competition is in place then capitalism and effective competition grows.

Absolutely not.

Wealthy nations offshore low level mfg.

Its inefficient for us without massive subidies. Its never coming back. Its a pipe dream and y'all are chasing ghosts.

Y'all are getting closer to wanting to nationalize industry, I figure that will be the next step leftward.

And if people stop buying them the price will
Drop. The problem is that Americans are obsessed with things and are willing to do anything to have worthless shite. I buy a truck once every ten to twelve years. My truck is usually worn totally out when I’m finished with it because shite doesn’t last anymore. People can c trol the market but they are too weak to do it.

The irony is thick.

Chinese nationalized industry, complete with subsidy and Chinese protectionism attempting to monopolize sectors is exactly what you support.
