Yea that makes so much sense. We're paying them to undo trillions of dollars worth of investment and expenditures we've plugged into the region since we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.

I sincerely hope you don't have a job that allows you to operate heavy machinery.

We would be carpet bombing Syria with B52s.

This is either quality sarcasm or was stated by someone who doesn't know what Reagan actually did while in office.

It was the New Jersey

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Feb. 8 - The United States battleship New Jersey bombarded Druse and Syrian gun batteries in Lebanon for more than nine hours today in the heaviest and most sustained American military action since the marines arrived here 16 months ago.

How, besides being less effective and less precise does that differ from Obama's policy of air support and targeted drone strikes?

Obviously they are too young to remember the bombing of the US Marine barracks in Lebanon which killed nearly 300 Marines?

The Jersey didn't get rolling with heavy bombardments until february. Months after the Beirut bombings.

From the article I linked,

quote:
Previously [to Feb 8, 1984], the Americans had fired their naval guns only in retaliation for attacks on the Marine compound

The Navy had shelled Lebanon for retaliation for the barracks bombing. I know you libs want to act like Reagan cut and run, but we shelled the hell out of that coast.

So.... then you're cool with Obama just using air strikes and drone attacks right? Because that seems pretty similar only you know way, way more precise.

If we use ISIS as a reason to go into Syria, I'm going to be a lot less skeptical about this theory than I currently am.

According a document recently released by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, now the Islamic State, is an intelligence asset.

The NSA document reveals the United States, Israel, and Britain are responsible for the creation of ISIS.

Earlier this month Nabil Na’eem, the founder of the Islamic Democratic Jihad Party and former top al-Qaeda commander, told the Beirut-based pan-Arab TV station al-Maydeen all current al-Qaeda affiliates, including ISIS, work for the CIA.

ISIS is a well-armed and trained terrorist group now in control of large areas of Iraq and Syria.
The NSA document states the group was established by U.S., British and Israeli intelligence as part of a strategy dubbed “the hornet’s nest” to draw Islamic militants from around the world to Syria.

edward snowden released documents from the NSA confirming ISIS is set up by the CIA.

I guess no one thought that was relevant.

LMAO at all the lefties who will never forgive Ronbo for having the balls to take down their commie buddies. I know the shared misery of the 1970s is still so appealing to you guys, but most Americans don't feel that way. I know you guys are still as sullen as Peter Jennings during the 1984 presidential election returns, but do try to get over it.

Puhlease explaine to me how if Carter was re-elected and Dukakis after him the Berlin Wall wouldn't have come down.

Neither one of these guys would have increased our military enough to scare the Soviets into bankrupting themselves trying to keep up.

The Soviet Union's economy was pretty lousy before Reagan was elected. The military buildup may have actually propped up the economy for a while. Of course the fall might have been greater but I think it was inevitable.

Something we may want to consider about our military spending...
