It is already starting - New York Times...
The far-left Atlantic is also featuring the CDC's monumentally false reporting. Trump has been silent on it.
The information dam is breaking on the CDC's bazaar COVID statistics.
Trump needs to get out ahead of this story immediately.

Doesn't that also increase the number of COVID positive which is what the media wants? They're literally trying to have their cake and eat it too.

If they start the narrative - then they can accuse HIS CDC of manipulating people to stay at home, making him out to be an authoritarian.
That's why I am so aggravated with Trump right now. He can't seem to grasp the full extent of what's happening.
If he does, he sure doesn't feel compelled to defend himself in a manner that is clear the people.
Fire Fauci and expose this fraud.

He recently was lambasted by the media for suggesting more testing may be harmful (he is correct in part due to this and the general misunderstanding of population statistics)

Not nearly enough. Trump needs to immediately get to the bottom of the CDC's false reporting, and clean house - they've given all the ammo he needs to do this.
Even Deborah Birx has blasted the CDC - "There is nothing from the CDC that I can trust."

It won’t hurt Trump if CDC is exposed. This thing has been effectively politicized at this point and draconian CDC and Dr Fauci are mascots of the left. Any fraud to perpetuate great Covid fear is owned squarely by the dems.

Every bureaucracy in the federal government has a Deep State/Administrative State contingent......It's why Congressional term limits and some federal bureaucrats should be limited in their job positions.

Aren't states reporting their own specific data?
How does it work with the CDC - does every state do its own tests and then send results to cdc?

At least 2 things are happening - the states are required to report cases as COVID that likely are not, and the CDC is combining antibody testing with active virus testing.
Then there's this on nursing home deaths -
