We need to do that just because we need to do it, I agree.
However, I don't think it solves the whole problem. If we allow China to do that without stopping them, it might be Japan or South Korea next, and it might happen by pulling N. Korea away from Russia and solidifying a stronger alliance between the two, which nobody needs.

The only thing that the Chinese like more than taking back Taiwan is making the Taiwanese, Japanese and Americans think they want to take Taiwan back.
