I would like everyone to take note of the FBI, the IC and the opposition reaction today
And bookmark that shite.

Remember it the next time you want to tell me that if there are abuses in our IC and Justice departments that a whistleblower should just use the official processes to let Americans know.

You have your answer right now as to how stupid that thinking is. If a fricking Congressman gets this reaction, fricking Joe Blow hasn't a snowball's chance in hell.

Let's pretend for a second that someone at about Snowden's level within the FBI became aware of shite and had documented what he saw going down in a Memorandum for Record after reviewing as much information as he was able.

Now, let's pretend that MFR is absolutely horrible for EITHER party.

Now let's all sit back and deal with what we KNOW would be reality if he tried to come forward with his MFR.

Add to this that if they all (intelligence, FBI, Dems and the MSM) don't want anyone to read this memo because it's "corrupted" or "incorrect", that immediately tells you it's a powerful message to be seen by all Americans.

For if it is incorrect or corrupted information, the press and the Dems would. BE. DROOLING! that the Republicans would want to release such misinformation!!!

The DOJ and FBI are devoted civil servants who only have our best interests at heart. They must be left to COMPLETE SECRECY in order to do everything right.

We can trust them with that much power and autonomy...right?

They’re like 6 year olds who really think the tantrum they’re throwing will distract from what’s about to go down.

If Nunes was on the level, he would have released the supporting documents.

Just like any "whistleblower" has to do.

As a military man, this must really make you chuckle.

They sure as hell don't trust YOU with that autonomy.

Go rogue in your bird and shoot up some shite you weren't supposed to.

Let's see how long your name is redacted!

LOL.

So if some low level whistleblower witnesses hundreds of actions worth reporting, but can't get out of the office with the documentation, he should just shut up?

Well. Thanks for proving my OP point.

Why does he have to be a traitor or hero? Why can't he be a guy who did something useful but did it in a pretty awful way?

What I find particularly interesting is that this really shouldn’t be a partisan issue.

FBI and DOJ aren’t historically dem agencies. Quite the opposite. Maybe in this case there were dems directly involved but from what I can tell so far it doesn’t indicate it is a party-wide epidemic of corruption. But the way in which the entire dem party and MSM have collectively flinched at the first threat of exposure should make everyone very suspicious. I repeat, should. However, Some men you just can’t reach.

Well, I don't want this to be only a Snowden thread because it goes WELL beyond him.

But, the point in the OP really sort of answers your question.

If an organization makes it so that there is an almost insurmountable penalty and virtually no chance of success doing something the correct way, then, it basically by default CAUSES the incorrect way.

I highly doubt that Snowden was the first person to notice the abuses. Hell. I highly doubt that no one before him ever looked up to their leaders and said, "um..........that don't seem right".

But NONE of them had a chance. And, we see now that the environment that creates that problem STILL exists.

Which, will inevitably, lead to more people doing it the wrong way.

Duh, then how could he release the memo which had classified information?

The House Intel Committee can declassify classified documents.

I share your concern. It's like Democrats have given up having ideas and are just cheering on the possibility that the IC will remove Trump. This is an open goal, he's got the lowest ratings of any president and he's about as apt with policy as a clown is with restraint and solemnity.

I do remember the boot being on the other foot. That those who opposed war in Iraq being labelled unpatriotic or foolish for opposing the IC community assessment on WMDs. I don't know quite how it went down at the time in the US, but back in the UK where I was living then, there was no real doubt that the government had ordered a very slanted report to justify the case for war.

We're now more connected than ever. We all carry around devices in our pockets that can be subverted to record us, that track our movements both in direction and by speed and number of steps, and of course track almost everything we use them to do (like call or play games). What's more many people voluntarily bring more devices into their home that constantly listen to them without any concern. Hell I have two google homes and my wife wanted a smart tv with voice input.

I don't see the intel communities having gotten much smarter over the years. Maybe their successes are all kept secret from us. But at the same time, we've entered into a faustian pact where we've all compromised our privacy for convenience. For all the cries of Trump the authoritarian, if a true authoritarian ever got in charge, imagine how fricked we'd all be given how much embarrassing data we give up.

It's time for us to have a real conversation about the nature and purpose of the intelligence agencies.

Nunes wasn't some low level whistleblower. And he had the documents. So your analogy is bogus.
