So our articles (and my knowledge of Japanese culture) agree
You qouted some bimbo 20 something year old who also said
They were worn as a "fashion statement?" Are you freakin kidding me. NOBODY is gonna put that shite on their face a "fashion statement"
And one of my articles had health as the #1 reason.
quote:
I'm saying wearing masks has nothing to do with Japan's Wu Flu numbers
You are absolutely clueless.

You literally know nothing about Japanese culture.

You do realize that the virus can stay suspended in the air for a good while. So even though no one is presently around, if they sneezed or coughed and in an area that you pass though way after they are gone, the virus could still be there in the air. I don't do much outside my home even now but I have my reasons. If I do go (been to Lowes only once in weeks and used to go 3-4 times a week), I wear a mask.

So their "culture" started in 2003?
Per your own article.

Disposable face masks marketed specifically to allergy sufferers first appeared on the market in 2003.

Masks with fun patterns or brand logos turned them into a fashion accessory,
LMAO!

I've always said being blonde isn't about a hair color
Me: I saved a woman's life today. This blonde was trying to ride a horse and she fell out of the saddle but her foot was stuck in the stirrup and it was still bucking and her head was knocking on the ground and she was screaming.
Bob: What did you do?
Me: I pulled the plug out of the wall socket.

I’d be slightly more inclined and would even consider it if say my hair girl asked me to do it because she felt it kept her safe.
However a gov mandating that I do is a sure way for me to outright refuse to comply.
A business can do as it pleases and I will just not use that business.

Please, for your own good, stop commenting about something you are utterly lost when discussing. It's making you look like a bigger dumbass than you already are.
Yet another article discussing face masks as fashion accessories in Japan
Is JAPAN TODAY a good enough link, dumbass??

they wash their hands with extreme diligence
This, coupled with the fact that CV19 is not air-born.

LMAO! Coming from a guy who's literally arguing that Japanese use masks for "fashion statement s" instead of health reasons and masks have had zero effect on their CV success.
Of given you 4 different sources to back up the CV/masks success in Japan and now you're arguing that its nothing more than a fashion statement AND had nothing to do with health?
ANOTHER article
Underlying the Japan model are factors such as the habit of wearing masks. This habit is widespread in Japan, where many people suffer from hay fever, making the possibility of contraction by droplets comparatively small
Question: Did they or did they not wear them before 2003...when the "trend" started?
Now please link ANY legitimate article that backs up your original and assertion that masks have "done nothing" to stem CV in Japan or just STFU and stop embarrassing yourself.

Are you illiterate? From your own article:
Do YOU believe you're more likely to contract Wu Flu from some random assclown coughing 20 feet away from you in public, or because you're a nasty slob and do not wash your hands before you stick a finger halfway up your nose?
How are all these people in New York who are staying at home and self-isolating still getting Wu Flu??
Please stay at home just in case your level of retard is communicable.

Behaviors like shaking hands, hugging and kissing, and other forms of physical contact are not part of traditional Japanese greetings. Another factor may be that conversing on crowded commuter trains, where there is close physical contact, is considered poor etiquette. This also helps limit the possibility that people will contract the virus by droplets.

What kind of idiotic scenerio is this?
Still waiting for that article to back up your claim...TIC TOC
Dude, you made an absurd statement and reaffirmed it. Just own it and move on because you can't back it up with a shred of evidence...quite the opposite as a matter of fact.

That is THE reason half of the under-30s in Japan walk around with a mask on.

The kind of idiotic scenario you seem to think happens when I'm in Wal-Mart and thus need to wear a mask around town.

Japan's rate of death via respiratory illnesses is basically the EXACT SAME as the US. So with all these Japanese running around with masks on, why aren't they doing significantly better than the US? Because masks are fricking useless.
Thanks for playing the "reveal yourself to be a dumbass" game.

Please post a link to their death rates of respitory illness CAUSED BY INFLUENZA OR OTHER VIRUSES that cause respitory illness.
So we've skipped over communicable diseases over respiratory illnees?
Amazing, not only an epidemiologist but also a cardiologist!

And you still posted nothing about respitory illness CAUSED BY A CONTAGIOUS VIRUS.
Are you really this stupid? "Respitory Illness" can be caused by multiple factors including smoking and pollution.

Outlook
What is acute respiratory failure?
Hypercapnic respiratory failure means that there’s too much carbon dioxide in your blood, and near normal or not enough oxygen in your blood.
What are the symptoms of acute respiratory failure?
The symptoms of acute respiratory failure depend on its underlying cause and the levels of carbon dioxide and oxygen in your blood.
People with a high carbon dioxide level may experience:
rapid breathing
confusion
People with low oxygen levels may experience:
an inability to breathe
bluish coloration in the skin, fingertips, or lips
People with acute failure of the lungs and low oxygen levels may experience:
restlessness
anxiety
sleepiness
loss of consciousness
rapid and shallow breathing
racing heart
irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias)
profuse sweating
What causes acute respiratory failure?
Acute respiratory distress syndrome
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a serious condition characterized by low oxygen in the blood. ARDS affects you if you already have an underlying health problem such as:
pneumonia
pancreatitis (inflammation of them pancreas)
severe trauma
sepsis
severe brain injuries
lung injuries caused by inhalation of smoke or chemical products
It can occur while you’re in the hospital being treated for your underlying condition.
Drug or alcohol abuse
If you overdose on drugs or drink too much alcohol, you can impair brain function and hinder your ability to breathe in or exhale.
Chemical inhalation
Inhaling toxic chemicals, smoke, or fumes can also cause acute respiratory failure. These chemicals may injure or damage the tissues of your lungs, including the air sacs and capillaries.
Stroke
A stroke occurs when your brain experiences tissue death or damage on one or both sides of the brain. Often, it affects only one side. Although stroke does present some warning signs, such as slurred speech or confusion, it typically occurs quickly. If you have a stroke, you may lose your ability to breathe properly
