I couldn’t imagine being dumb enough to fall for the talking point that developing a cure to disease isn’t financially beneficial to the developer

Sorry, I may have misinterpreted what you were saying. I'm posting, watching the Hogs, and have my 4 yo grandson bouncing around me like a spider monkey on crack.

Understood.

I know of people that have done those things, but it's highly illegal and my practice if far too valuable to risk and I wouldn't do it anyway.

Just a guess - but I bet the root of most of the shite is what you mentioned before, the takeover of the family practice/small groups of MDs by "big med" and it's at the corporate level you find the gifts, speaking fees, etc. It's like pepsi and coke competing for all the fountains in a chain of fast food restaurants - those decisions aren't made locally.

If I can cure cancer, I'm 100% selling it. I'll be the richest man in the history of the world. Why not cure it? There will new cases every day and I just eliminated my competition. You cure cancer, you just checkmated the entire industry.

Fortunately you never have to go to the doctor. You can google everything and self treat any issues that come up.

Yeah there is.

Bro, the fact that people are alive in the world means there will always be perpetual treatment.

I’m sure that over time the private school education their kids will receive + beach house + lake house will somehow ease their pain.

Exactly! It’s just a dumbass talking point that simpletons don’t think through.

If a company developed a cure for diabetes, they would instantly be Fortune 500 and be worth billions. Especially when you account for R&D patent protections. To say “there is no money in curing diseases” is pure lunacy.

Shhh he thinks if you “cure” a disease, that means you don’t have patients to treat. He doesn’t understand the difference between “eradicate” and “cure.”

You know what cures hip arthritis? A hip replacement. Guess what we are doing more and more of every year because for some reason people keep getting hip arthritis

Well, there certainly won’t be a single cure for cancer, because it is a collection of distinct diseases with various etiologies. You could cure one type of cancer and make a windfall. They already cure certain types of cancer through a combination of therapies.

The best cure is prevention, but given what RFK did with that latest study on alcohol, maybe he should look at who is really not interested in a ‘cure’ or is influenced by private industry.

AI is already successfully diagnosing medical conditions with higher accuracy than humans.

Some conditions in controlled settings, yes. AI has shown real strengths in areas like cancer scans and heart monitoring. But it also makes mistakes that a trained doctor wouldn’t. Likewise, doctors sometimes miss what the AI catches. The real progress comes from combining the two.

Well, I am sorry to inform you that someday you are going to die of something. Life is a terminal condition, as this ICU doc I know likes to say.
