I’ve been asked to decipher what four or five of the amendment questions meant and how yes or no affects them.

I have a feeling our knuckle dragging compadres have no idea what the questions mean.

Maybe they could write them at a 5th grade level to help these folks out. I’m convinced most don’t understand the questions and implications.

Edited for easy viewing:

I’m a pretty astute person, and I read the pros/cons and arguments for/against on all of them.

Man, I was still a tad confused on about 4 of them. JFC, write that shite a bit better. Pure political talk in some.

The couple that argued against because they had no debate out of commission, and why not let the legislature debate it, I kind of thought seemed the best course of action.

Because I STILL had no clue what they meant

I’m not either but confusing a populace already suffering from terrible education seems like cruelty.

Im still being told that voting yes on amendment 1 would make abortions illegal in Louisiana.

Am I missing something, because thats not what i gather when i read it.

Well I have no idea what yours are but if yours are written likes ours they are sometimes hard to understand especially the yes or no aspect. There was one not too many years ago about gay couples and adoption, it was written in basically a quadruple negative style or that’s how my brain processed it. I’m still not sure that I voted how I wanted to.

Again, I legit had issues with about 4 of them being a bit murky either way. I’m not texridder low IQ.

Heard quite a few in line talking about how confusing they were on the wording.

I mean, just kind of clean up the fricking wording isn’t a bad thing.

I marked them all down on a sample ballot like I’m 80 years old. Apparently once you turn 35 your sense of translating things from memory to machine becomes more challenging.

You are not missing anything. It does not make abortion illegal. That can't be done until Roe is overturned. Then LA laws would kick in and make it illegal. However there is a concern that the LA courts could find a right to abortion in the LA constitution. Thus the amendment.

Pretty much the definitive guide to the amendments.

Thanks, thats what I thought.

Well - essentially it was ensuring that courts couldnt decide funding was required (since roe v wade is law of the land).

Should roe v wade ever be overturned then then the piece about rights to even have one kicks in.

They write them as confusing and convoluted as possible on purpose.

My interpretation of it was it doesn’t matter if R v W is never overturned, but if it is, there is an amendment on the books that would outlaw it.

However, a yes vote would keep activist state judges from being able to try and make law via their judgements.

ETA: just reread your post, and we have the same conclusion

Oh, and I know it wasn’t a CA, and it was straightforward, but I hope you fricks voted yes on Sports Gambling.

I gave up betting like 12 years ago, won’t step foot in a casino.

But if we are going to have casinos, why let the tax money leave to bet in MS? It’s beyond stupid!!

Lawyers gonna lawyer. Speak legalese so average people don’t understand.

Wish there was a law to keep lawyers from becoming politicians. I know we’d be much better off.

They already donate to judges races and then get hefty settlements from the same judge.
And people bitch about Citizens United?

Sorry, I didn’t take Latin you think a regular Louisiana Baw has?

they write a lot of the amendments to confuse the voters.

they go in thinking they are supposed to vote no, when it's yes.

As stated, I'm fairly well educated and versed in this stuff (probably pretty avg for this board)...and I make sure to read each amendment 3 times and think for a minute what im reading.

I get the context of the proposal, but The main problem is the overtly legal jargon causes you to second guess whether you are for or against it.

On that thought, using For/against would probably solve the issue instead if yes/no

They do that to confuse the issue and try to get you to vote the way the writers want.
