Just like Rodman said, Kim is a big kid who wants to be accepted. He is not his father or grandfather (who broke agreements). This is why I am optimistic this deal will work.

What would blow my mind is if Kim releases all the people in his concentration camps. I am not there yet, but I wouldn't put it past Trump being able to pull it off.

A big kid who will have you killed at the snap of a finger if he's having a bad day.

He is somewhat more Western than his father and grandfather, which may not take a lot, but I think he sees what NK is missing out on and wishes to reverse course... he'll be in power for a while enabling himself to oversee his nation coming out of the Dark Ages

I think the bigger thing is he is more "westernized" than he may lead on. Certainly moreso than his grandfather (who came to power at a MUCH different time as essentially a USSR proxy) and his father. That, in and of itself, likely makes him more amenable to leaving the cold war era mindset behind.

I don't know if I'd say he's a "big kid" as much as he's just completely inexperience and doesn't necessarily have his own identity. As such, he's trying to be like his grandfather...only he probably doesn't have that same "all in" belief in that system of government. Still, being the totalitarian, unquestioned ruler of your own country probably has its "perks" that are tough to give up in a democracy style of government.

I don't foresee a USSR type collapse of NK anytime soon. But, you could see NK move to a more "pink" style of government ala China.

It’s obvious that he’s a big kid. I said last night during the signing ceremony that he was grinning like a nervous kid waiting for his prom date to show up.

Naw. Not buying what that statement is selling.

He's done a lot of fricked up shite to his own people, and cost governments 100's of millions in babysitting fees for his fits.

He'll be in power as long as there is no uprisings or revolutions in North Korea. This is the tricky part about being a dictator over a country. You don't want the people to feel absolutely hopeless but you don't want to give them too much hope either.

He seems like a kid, however, not exactly like a kid in the USA. But, at the olympics I think he (and his sister) caught a glimpse of what life was like for young adults in the rest of the world and they liked it.

Yes, he certainly has. He kills people with AA guns for lulz, and has fed rivals to dogs.

But what's the alternative? War in Korea? Hundreds of thousands more could potentially die. I am fine with Trump pretending he is some "friend" to keep peace, especially if Kim incrementally modernizes the country.

You have to think it's appealing to him to be the leader to bring his country out of the dark ages and usher in a new era of prosperity for his country. He and the state run media may keep the people in the dark, but certainly he sees firsthand that NoKo is nothing compared to even Singapore.
