I never understood why the poorest, most unfortunate people in the USA do not vote for GOP

...do not vote for conservative candidates!
They will provide you solid employment.
They will take you off government hand-out programs.
They will teach you that hard work pays off.
They will give you and your family dignity.
They will prove to you that less government is good.
They will tax you less and give you more freedom.
They will show that the liberal/left is a dead-end.
They will give you a real chance at the American Dream!

The poor and unfortunate are usually that way because of a lack of willingness to work. That doesn't mesh well with conservative values.

Because it involves starting work for less than what you can get from sitting on your arse. People want instant gratification, not working your way up to a good-paying job.

You have to realize, this goes back generations and really starts with LBJ and his new deal.
When you get a reason to be unsuccessful by blaming others and you get just enough from the government you teach each generation that you can get by with not much work, have kids get more money, get free housing, phone, food, etc. You just can't get enough to get a nice house, car, clothes, etc.
Your point is exactly right but democrats control people by the above paragraph. It's almost impossible to break the victimization mentality because it's such an easy way out and gives you an excuse to not be accountable.
It's why the few people who come from a low income family (like myself) break that cycle and actually work their arse off, they will realize that life is much better when you have a purpose and you work hard. It's why Mike Rowe's show Dirty Jobs shows people working in all of these tough jobs are so happy. They get satisfaction out of their hard work, they fit in, they create bonds with coworkers, they feel they make a difference.
Also being a good parent is such a big player in what you're talking about. Good fathers/mothers feel a sense of self accomplishment and it just changes their entire mental health.
This will never be fixed until people realize it's much better to work (even if you're making the same as being unemployed). The whole psychological aspect makes the difference. Being mentally happy and feeling accomplished makes the difference. People are afraid to give up the free ride they are accustomed to.
Just remember, there is no reason to dislike these people as most do not understand how much greener the grass is on the other (conservative) side.

If I was generationally poor and lived in an inner city with little visible hope for improved state for myself, I would 100% vote for more free shite.
