Is there a difference between the keto diet and simply reducing ones carbs to less than, say, 20 per day where your urine turns the stick dark purple?

Sorry to hear
Learn/reflect from the experience

Very good write up below (there is more nuance to it, but these are pretty good broad strokes to start with)

Had a heart attack in Oct of 2017...., left the house, drove to work, called my boss, told him I'm not feeling well, drove to the ER, 2 hrs later I've got a stent and prescriptions for several medications.

Listen to your doctors. Clean up your diet. When you are able to, exercise.

Exercise will increase the collaterals in your heart. Go vegetarian. Some studies have demonstrated a decrease in vascular calcifications with a strict vegan diet. I think it was a strict vegan diet.

Life becomes more valuable when we don't take it for granted. So enjoy your valuable life with loved ones.

Besides you need to keep posting here!

I wish you a speedy recovery. Any of us middle aged guys are fully capable of having a heart attack. You, some of us have bad habits that may contribute to that possibly occurring. Lose weight, don’t smoke and moderate booze is a good start. Walk daily because it’s the best cardiovascular exercise we can do. Take your meds as they are prescribed.

Totally agree. I don't agree with him often but he's not antagonistic. I appreciate that.

I'm very happy that you're still with us, especially for your child's sake

I agree, I think genetics, stress and sedentary lifestyle are the 3 culprits. I was 20 lbs overweight when I had my heart attack and was stilling running 2-3 times per week.

Did it hurt? I had one and it hurt like a MF. Got a helicopter ride out of the deal though. Not to mention 2 pretty women ripping off my clothes. Two items off the bucket list so all-in-all not a bad day.

Damn. How old at that time and had one of your parents had early heart disease?

I believe I read that the cardiologists chucked the idea of a low cholesterol diet back in 2015.

My other arteries were around 30% so the Dr. was not concerned with those, said at age 58 that's not too bad. The widow maker (LAD) was 90% so it got the stent. Did rehab for 6 weeks, I'm back to walking 3+ miles a day and I usually jog over 2 miles of that 3 mile walk.

58 years old, dad had triple bypass in his early 70's, brother is a year younger than me and he had 3 stents put in 5 years ago..., so yeah, we have a little history with this heart disease BS!

I use to supplement a lot with Strauss heart drops and other stuff that allegedly prevents or reverses heart disease so maybe that's why my other arteries were relatively clear for a man of 58. I'm not sold on the cholesterol as the cause for heart disease, from what I've read the liver is delivering the cholesterol because the body is calling for the cholesterol to patch/repair inflamed arterial damage.

Check out Dr. Campbell McBride, she has a theory that heart disease is being increased by leaky gut syndrome, this allows microscopic particles into the bloodstream from the diseased digestive tract and those particles in turn irritate the arterial blood vessels.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. You aren't the only over 40 idiot that still thinks they are invincible. I almost blew-off an appointment to see a cardiologist that my general practitioner set up for me, I , at 46, was having slight chest pain and fatigue after easy exercise. Ended up needing to bypass the LAD @99% blocked. A pick-up game of basketball would have killed me, like it did a friend of ours eight months earlier.
You made it. Congratulation. Now we need to try to keep it beating right.

Didn't intend to hijack your thread Eurocat with my heart attack episode, was just letting y'all know I'm very empathetic to your situation and I'll pray for your speedy recovery so you can raise that child up to be healthy and strong.
