I don’t understand how illegal immigrants are proud Mexicans/Colombians/etc

EDIT: This is in the context of illegals who come here, swear that they love their home nation, wave its flag around, etc, yet have no intention of becoming American and embracing the values and culture of America. Obviously you can be American and still be proud of your heritage.

Yet they all illegally immigrate here. If you’re so proud to be Mexican, then go back! If you love Colombia so much, there are plenty of flights to Bogota!

Seriously. I’m all for immigration if the intent is to come here LEGALLY, you already speak English at least at an intermediate level (it’s not our job to teach them English), and you intent to assimilate and become AMERICAN (no hyphenated crap).

If you’re coming here illegally, just gonna speak Spanish only, fly the flags of your home country that you apparently love yet are in a hurry to leave instead of fixing the problems, etc then don’t come.

If you love your home nation, then actually work to fix it. The US at one point was a TOUGH place to live with Indian tribes attacking settlers, land was untamed, economic depressions, etc. Only hard work saved it and it could be done elsewhere.

tl;dr if you’re a proud Mexican, work to make Mexico great instead of fleeing. If you come here, come legally with intent to assimilate

The identity of these people is to come here and steal, break our laws, and get free shite. That's their culture. So....they are proud.

I’m with you on preventing illegal immigration and it’s important people assimilate (learn English for ex) but it’s okay for people to be proud of their heritage. Just because you might not give a shite about what your family did before becoming American doesn’t mean everyone else has to as well.

Exactly. Imagine in history instead of the Austrians defending the gates of Vienna from the horde of Ottomans, that the Austrians opened the gates and let them invade Central and Western Europe. Their culture and society would be destroyed and that’s almost what we are facing now.

With all the cartels and crime from Latin America, we need a Latin American travel ban now with all of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

Wearing green and getting piss-drunk off of beer with food coloring one day out of the year is hardly the same thing as refusing to assimilate into American culture. The irish americans may be proud to be of their irish descent, but they Identify as Americans first. I have a dual citizenship with Australia, but i could give a frick about it. I’m proud to be American first and foremost.

Nobody is telling immigrants that they have to completely give up their identity and shun who they are/where they came from. They just need to realize that it’s America first and always.

Right, their proud of their heritage not the governments of their country, just like us. I mean I'm not proud of our government except for TRUMP.

My family and I are proud of our European roots, but we are first and foremost proud Americans and law abiding citizens. That’s the difference.

I'd be all in on removing hyphenated Americans from this country.

If you leave Louisiana, you are no longer allowed to support LSU, the Saints, have crawfish boils, or anything like that. You aren't allowed to be proud of your Louisiana roots.

You definitely can't be proud of you country if you seeking asylum from it. Those concepts would be 180 degrees out of phase.

Now if you are coming to the USA to make a buck, then I could see where you might still have warm feelings for the motherland. But that would mean that you are an economic migrant and that does not qualify you for asylum.

“Day” is the key word here. If the Mexicans want to have a day to be Mexican and fly their flags, I’m fine with that. But not every day of the year.

I think there's a difference between being "proud of your country" and being proud of your culture - food, music, art, language, etc.

Maybe they know what OP doesn’t about the CIA protecting drug trade for certain cartels who destabilize democratic rule of law and foster corruption so as to maintain power.

Everyday Americans are not to blame but our govt uses these countries to maintain a slush fund of billions to finance global geopolitics at every level. Columbians and Mexicans are powerless to do anything untitl America eliminates the black market for drugs from which the real rulers of central Am getvtgeuf obscene wealth and power.

I posted this in another similar thread.

Its one of the more perplexing things I've seen.

Routinely you'll see immigrants who still have much national pride for their homeland. Which I have no problem with actually, even if that place is horrible enough they had to flee. I think it's natural to have pride for your ethnic/cultural roots.

What's perplexing to me though is the lack of pride, and sometimes complete disdain, some of these same people have for the U.S. The same country they left their shithole for, in order to have a better life, and in most cases achieved that better life.

Nothing about that makes logical sense.
