I’m listening to an American election podcast and this week was LBJ vs Barry Goldwater. Goldwater wanted to rollback welfare and slash spending/taxes. Instead we got most likely the worst president in the history of America. If only the voters knew then what we know now

Wouldn’t change a thing. They would still vote him in.

1. No Vietnam

2. No War on Poverty(tm)

3. A rational, measured approach to black civil rights - not a revolutionary one

4. Civility and equality, not racism and #GetEvenWithThemIsm

...all would have shaped a far different 1960s.

I don't know. The country seemed to figure it out in 1980.

Goldwater was my first President choice. I tried to persuade my Black shipmate to vote for Goldwater with no success.
That was first time that I realized the MSM was extremely biased toward democrats.

“I will have these folks voting democrat for decades.” Except he didn’t use the work folks and was absolutely correct in his assertion after starting the Welfare state.

LBJ and his war machine complex/helicopter business was fully behind JFK getting shot, IMO. LBJ is the first of what would become the first professional, corrupt politicians we see today.

Certainly better in the short term.

But would we have gotten Reagan?

Or would we maybe have gotten him sooner? He was a major Goldwater surrogate in ‘64. Running mate in ‘68?

Interesting questions.

Until...

Obama was the worst , but not close behind him is LBJ, followed by Carter , and Ford .

Almost certainly sooner.

Plus, we'd never have heard from Nixon. He obviously would not have run in 1968.

Given a successful 1st Goldwater term, BG would have rolled to 1972. Otherwise, (assuming the RFK assassination) HHH would have had a term.

Either way by 1972, Reagan would have been ready to roll.

How far back in history do you want to take this argument?

In regards to the OP, the answer is never change the past. Regardless of how bad the result may have been, there is no way to know how bad it could have been.

More than likely there would not be a wall in DC with a bunch of names on it, that should not be there.

Lyndon Baines POS Johnson WAS the worst President EVER. If he never becomes President there are a lot of young men that get to be old men that didn't. The black family unit might be intact today and we don't have this BS going on.

He was the absolute worst and we are still paying the price for his idiocy. He was an evil utterly partisan SOB. .

Exactly, my point.

What if Columbus had turned left instead of right?
