Of course it isn't. Surely, you can reason why they don't want to do it.

Never said I didn’t understand. Just explained why Trump turned their offer down.

What's wrong with VAT?

Isn't that what everyone here wants for us in the US?

So you expect them to upend their system despite the protections in place to limit the abuse your concerned about? You are surprised they won't agree to a deal where they essentially waive taxing jurisdiction not only over imports but domestic competitors as well? K

Trump wants a tax free trade deal. They can agree to one or not. If not, fine. Tariffs it is.

Is he going to force the states to reciprocate in kind?

You asked a question about a power Trump doesn’t have. My answer is succinct and accurate.

I'm aware he doesn't have the power. What I'm questioning is the accuracy of your description of the deal given the conditions.

That shows you how dumb the average American is about investing. It’s smart to invest in equities when valuations are close to all time highs dating back 100 years but not when valuations contract slightly pushing up forward returns

I don’t give two fricks about domestic competitors.

If they want to tax THEIR companies, have at it.

I gave a rather simplistic analogy.

It applies to what was mentioned.

Anything else is deflection.

The relevance is clear. Exempting US imports means exempting domestically produced competitors. That's the real reason they don't want to back off VAT. Your hypothetical doesn't even pass legal scrutiny in their courts.

Last I heard there were 70 countries lined up wanting to negotiate tariffs with the US. Other than I think Italy and Israel, I have not heard anything about any other country reaching an agreement. Am I just missing the news?

Why would we sign any agreements? I was told we were getting manufacturing jobs. I’ve been ready to grab a wrench and get to work.

Irrelevant to me.

Also irrelevant.

They will have a means to tax American produced products while excluding European made one.

This isn’t about what they HAVE DONE, rather what they CAN DO in the future.

Why give them that out?

The only other option is for the USA to bring VAT taxes online.

I’m not in favor of that.

Via VAT? Oooh yeah. Drop that X/Twitter EU tax law knowledge on me. You have no idea what they can and can't do. You're just parroting.
