I remember when Richard Russell represented Georgia for about 50 years in the Senate, and he would make Kennedy sound downright urbane. Didn't matter though. He was one great senator that represented Georgia with dignity and acclaim and had the rare quality of being a gentleman bad-arse. When the younger brother of that other John Kennedy got elected to the Senate he told Titty Boy to go see Senator Russell and he would show him how to be a good senator. Unfortunately, the lessons didn't take, because it is ultimately impossible for truly evil men to be good at anything worthwhile.
I find the present-day Senator Kennedy to be a thoughtful and effective senator even if I disagree with him sometimes. He's worth keeping for now.

Completely different time and circumstances. Not to mention none of these fricking hacks compare to the man Reagan was.

Zach is right.
His corn pone folkiness is a put on. He is an Oxford Scholar.
He is also the most aggressive fund raiser I have ever encountered. When he was treasury I think he spent most of his time calling people asking for money. He called me three times one year.
He is a good Senator and much better than any person in Louisiana still calling themselves a democrat.

Should have run for Governor in 2015, but he let David Vitter tell him what to do.
LAGOP and its voters should have been smart enough to know a dude with rumors of wearing a diaper for hookers wasn't going to beat a rural "socially conservative Democrat" with military service.
At least Kennedy would have had a shot with his experience looking at the state budget from a Treasurer standpoint, and he had a clear record of speaking out against Bobby Jindal's budget gimmicks and games.

He is smart and charismatic. Not really any other smart charismatic politicians in LA. He talks a good game, but I basically don’t trust anyone to follow through like Trump with the exception of Rand Paul. Kennedy would cave eventually as he is bought off like all the other politicians.

He's a smart guy that hides behind / plays up the Foghorn Leghorn bit.
