Yeah, I’ve long suspected a troll but who knows.

I want to believe in his biglaw NYC fantasy.

I’d rather our own citizens get that education and the means to do it than let people who have no intention of becoming citizens or assimilating to our society come and do it. Education should be more accessible yet our society is stagnant.

Do we have a glut of Americans unable to access college?

We get smart, driven people...that most always often stay in the US and contribute to society.

Unis are mostly just accepting the best from other countries or great athletes and Olympians...(who train here and then represent their home country in the Olympics) - okay, so that doesn't help us.

Ask him how stoked he is that Trump made it legal to say “Merry Christmas” again.

Actually there is a lot of statistical evidence that Toynbee is correct and the foreign educated often suffer " from the congenital unhappiness of the hybrid who is an outcaste from both the families that have combined to beget him. An intelligentsia is hated and despised by its own people because its very existence is a reproach to them. Through its presence in their midst it is a living reminder of the hateful but inescapable alien civilization which cannot be kept at bay and therefore has to be humored. The Pharisee is reminded of this each time he meets the Publican, and the Zealot each time he meets the Herodian. And, while the intelligentsia thus has no love lost on it at home, it also has no honor paid to it in the country whose manners and tricks it has so laboriously and ingeniously mastered."

Western education doesn't stop terrorists as a lot of terrorists have higher educations in the west, or become alienated after they come to the west.

Should LSU only grant football athletic scholarships to players from Louisiana, since if they are from (for example) Texas, they may never set foot here again after they graduate. If all the scholarships go to Louisiana kids isn't there a better chance that they will stay and spend here?

Just ignore the fact that you could be passing on Texas five stars to allow in Louisiana two stars to play on the team.

Now think of it this way. Should Harvard schollies in hard subjects go to American two stars or Bulgarian five stars? Or French or Pakistani or Chinese, etc. Which will grow the reputation of the university more and increase its endowments? Kinda like getting more gridiron wins.

I am assuming you are asking this question in the context of the tax reform bill.... Well foreign students don't usually get scholarships that frequently, what they get is tuition waiver, if and only if they get a teaching/research/graduate assistantship.

Here is the main reason why universities offer things like tuition waivers and assistantships to foreign students: attract good students to move to USA. Just search for "major US companies funded by immigrants" and see how much 1st/2nd generation immigrants have done. This is one way of attracting immigrants.

Disclaimer: I am one of those foreign students who did MS and PhD from LSU, with assistantship and tuition waiver.

Don't worry. You wouldn't have been admitted anyway.

I think the answer to this lies somewhere in the middle.

Yes, there are completely unfair and unnecessary advantages just because some folks can check off the immigrant box on college applications and scholarship forms, but NO not everyone who receives these benefits is leaching off the system. There are certainly many who remain in the US to contribute to our economy and adopt our culture ultimately.

But certainly, there are plenty of leaches on the system who game it just because they're non-white, or foreign.

The system should definitely be revamped to clean up the areas that account for unfair benefits to people based on things like skin color or nationality and not merit.

I’m MAGA as they come but recognize they’re cheap labor for graduate work, TA’s, etc. and many actually stay and are high income producers.

WHy is sports a whole different animal. It is almost the same thing. Deciding on whether to give scholarships to your people or the best people, even if they are from elsewhere. No big difference if you ask me.

It benefits us barely in anyway to let some girl from Pakistan major in engineering just to leave and those skills out of here.

Ehh, not entirely. Depends on what happens after that. It could be a fruitful endeavor in the long term.

Wouldn't it be nice if Pakistan were a more developed country?
