When we have our own citizens who are capable of majoring in STEM, we give tons of taxpayer dollars to foreigners to come to our state universities, reap the award, and then contribute nothing significant back while our own citizens are handed a bill because they’re white and haven’t faced “hardships.”

Private universities can do whatever they want, it’s their endowment money. But state universities is run off our money

Broadly speaking, they aren’t taking spots from US students. They’re filling needed graduate slots.

Posts like this is why I love reading the Poli board. Ignorance at its finest.

I have heard that foreign students usually pay much of their own way. Maybe the school gives a bit of help, but it could be from some private donation.

What makes you think taxpayers foot so much of the bill? Can you link to the source of your information, would like to read it.

Some schollies are designated for foreign students by the donors. Also, do all foreign exchange students get a "free ride" or do some pay tuition as U.S. students do? I would think some do pay for at least some of their way, therefore, their money is also being used for scholarships using your reasoning.

Let me rephrase; Whether they pay or not, why do we let any come here? We have the best universities generally in the world. For the sake of international competition, we should keep our own in these schools and others out. It benefits us barely in anyway to let some girl from Pakistan major in engineering just to leave and those skills out of here.

There is a conservative underground here started by William Buckley, one of the greatest conservatives in US history who is from NYC.

How do American firms sells products in Pakistan if there are no bridges because they have shitty engineers who can’t build any?

The majority of graduate students in STEM programs are foreign students resulting in the majority of teaching assistants in STEM programs being foreign students, They are paid by the university to teach low level and lab classes, and often get in-state tuition or a tuition waiver as part of the assistantship or stipend as they usually called.

I'd rather have the Pakistani studying here and becoming fond of America rather than in China or Russia or Saudi Arabia and becoming fond of that country.

And as noted above, we need the contacts once they are back there.

I believe, but cannot prove, many end up working for the CIA too. But no proof of that (obviously), just makes sense. They DO recruit on campuses and have done it in the past. "Liked your time in the USA? Did, huh? Great, so listen when you are back home in Tehran we'd appreciate....."

I can never tell if you’re a troll or a 12 year old. In case of the latter, I won’t say anything too disparaging. But this is a woefully ignorant statement that shows that you’ve never set foot in a US institution of higher learning.

For the record, the reason we have the best educational institutions in the world is because we have the best higher scholars in the world. And the way we get the best scholars in the world is by inviting the best and brightest students from around the world to participate in our collegiate system. When they graduate, many if them stick around to do their research in those same institutions.

I’d rather our own citizens get that education and the means to do it than let people who have no intention of becoming citizens or assimilating to our society come and do it. Education should be more accessible yet our society is stagnant.
